MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION
To deliver effective and efficient support in technology and operations, including the research and development of innovative technology solutions, while developing team members to ensure consistent service delivery that meets customer requirements and contributes to the success of on-air television services broadcast from Broadcast Facilities.
 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Interpretation of tactical needs to enhance and promote technology infrastructures and customer user requirements and specifications
  • Investigate and interpret business requirements in accordance to functional requirements, workflows and international best practises.
  • Conceptualize, Design and Launch Engineered Solutions and Technical Workflows 
  • Prepare and submit motivation for approval of minor capital expenditure as per Company financial policy & procedures.
  • Full holistic overview of all systems and facilities to their compliance with agreed planned & preventative maintenance schedule
  • Fault reports in order to ensure department facilities & equipment functional & shortfalls adequately addressed

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Min NQF6, National Higher Diploma or (S4/T4) in Electrical Engineering (Light Current/Computer Studies or Information Technology)
  • Additional Qualification/Accreditation in a Specialized Field
  • Management/Supervisor Diploma and/or Demonstratable Management experience; Registration with Industry Bodies will be an advantage. 
  • At least 10 Years’ experience in broadcasting facilities support with software development, technical maintenance and fault finding of broadcasting equipment within a Broadcast Environment.
  • Software development in a language; VB, C#, .Net and MSSQL / MySQL is a requirement
  • Proficient in MS Office, i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point.
  • Expertise level of knowledge, experience and skills pertaining to the TV Broadcast environment, involving Broadcast Media Servers, Playout systems, Broadcast Automation Production TV Studios, Non-linear Craft Editing, Archives, Digital Media online platforms and On-Air Graphics.
  • A comprehensive understanding of analogue and digital television standards, file formats and acquisition formats.  
  • Ability to repair, configuring/ set-up, test and operate broadcast equipment.
  • Ability to apply contingencies, back –up strategies and develop their implementations. 
  • Ability to write Technical/ Operational reports, e.g. report writing, shift reports, fault reports, transmission reports etc.
  • 5 Years’ experience in Broadcast Playout server based environment.

UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS
  • Understanding and application of broadcast and production television fundamentals, including analogue and digital, television systems, metadata, audio and video (DTT/DTH and OTT Impact)

  • Compliance of upgrades with vendor specifications

 INHERENT/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Technical Diploma (S4) or equivalent (NQF6) Management Diploma (or equivalent) 
 
ADVANTAGE:
  • B-Tech in Electrical Engineering (Light Current/Computer Studies)
 
EXPERIENCE:
  • 10 years broadcast experience, 5 years in supervisory or specialist level.
  • 5 years practical experience in signal transmission and connectivity field.
 
 KNOWLEDGE:
  • Practical knowledge of broadband connectivity and streaming technologies
  • Knowledge and understanding of IT principles
  • Radio frequency and software expertise
  • Understanding of wireless network devices and use of radio waves
  • Advanced knowledge of telecommunication systems and digital signal processing

PURPOSE
To assist the employer to keep the workplace safe and free from hazards to the health and safety of the employees by implementing OHS standards, fire Safety Standards, procedures and directives.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1. BUSINESS OPERATIONS EFFICIENCY
•Gather IOD statistical information for analysis
•Participate in hazard identification and risk assessment processes
•Participate in Fire Risk Assessments
•Participate in incident investigations
•Conduct weekly workplace inspections and issue reports
•Participate and provide assistance with the formation and functioning of the Safety Committees
•Carryout tasks as per the fire prevention program
•Inspection of firefighting equipment
•Identify the need for firefighting equipment
•Present health and safety induction
