Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) is a newly established university providing holistic Health Sciences education, and is situated at Ga-Rankuwa. The following position(s) is/are currently available.
Medical Technical Officer (1 Post)
Ref: 41/2019/JSM/P10
The incumbent will be responsible for co-ordination of all undergraduate student practicals including training of demonstrators, pre-lectures, setting and marking of practical tests; and administration of practical marks. He/She will report to the HOD, and must meet the requirements, competencies and be responsible for the key performance areas below:
REQUIREMENTS
A three (3) year degree or diploma in a laboratory science field
At least two (2) years’ experience of working in a practical laboratory environment
At least two (2) years’ experience of working with students
Experience in general laboratory administrative duties
Experience in monitoring of stock levels, including replenishments
Ability to work in a team
COMPETENCIES
Fully computer literate and able to use software like Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Good communication skills
Good presentation skills
Interpersonal skills
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
• Responsible for the logistics of developing teaching material for undergraduate students
• Set up Microbiology practicals for undergraduate students
• Complete requisitions for orders
• Control laboratory stock and replenish “in use” consumables from stocks
• Assist with the specimen labelling, storage and retrieval for practical
• Draw departmental teaching rosters and necessary preparations for student teaching sessions including seminars, tutorials etc.
• Handle incoming calls from students and record messages
• Maintain efficient record keeping systems and archiving of records within areas of responsibility
• Handle any other administrative/technical duties to support teaching activities
• Perform duties as may be assigned by the HOD or designee
• Contribute to the overall development of SMU
