Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) is a newly established university providing holistic Health Sciences Education, situated at Garankuwa. The following position is currently available. 
 
LECTURER (1post) 
REF: 36/2019/NGM/P8 
 
 
The incumbent in this position will be responsible for providing leadership to the programmes of Oral Hygiene and Dental Therapy, teaching and learning, support the department and the School of Oral Health Sciences (SOHS) in pursuit of its academic objectives. The incumbent reports to the HOD and must meet the requirements, competencies and be responsible for the following key performance areas below: 
 
REQUIREMENTS
 An Oral Hygienist with relevant Master’s degree in Dental Hygiene, Education or Public Health 
 Three (3) years management experience, preferably in a clinical environment 
 Three (3) years’ experience in the facilitation of teaching and learning, and research supervision, at an institution of higher education 
 At least one peer-reviewed article in a scholarly journal (recommendation) 
 Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities 
 Evidence of competence in administration of a course / subject at departmental level 
 
 
COMPETENCIES
 Proficiency in MS Word and other Microsoft software, such as Excel and PowerPoint 
 Good interpersonal and Communication skills 
 The ability to function in a diverse working environment 
 The ability to function independently as well as in a team 
 Good organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines 
 A good work ethic and the ability to instil this in others 
 Result oriented 
 Leadership skills 
 
 
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS 
 Curriculum development, clinical training/work integrated learning, student academic development 
 Facilitate teaching and learning activities in theory and practice. Engage in internal and external assessments 
 Demonstrate scholarship through research supervision, research, academic presentations and publications 
 Oversee administration, quality assurance and health and safety in order to contribute to the academic initiatives undertaken by the department / (SOHS) 
 Contribute towards the continues growth of both the programmes Oral Hygiene and Dental Therapy through innovative teaching and learning, student recruitment and retention 
 Contribute to the overall development of SMU
