HARBOUR MASTER 
PERMANENT
TOTAL COST TO COMPANY: R 709 288, 98 – R783 272, 79 
 
The above position is available in the Ferry Operations Department at Robben Island Museum (RIM). The purpose of this position is to provide strategic direction, manage the harbour, NMG Quay and the surrounding areas to ensure it functions efficiently and all safety requirements are met. Manage the ferry’s operations and always ensure the safety of the tourists. Ensure all safety requirements in terms of the Merchant Shipping Act and OHS Act are adhered to. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
▪ Ensure the port is safe for ships to navigate. 
▪ There is sufficient depth of water in the ship channels and alongside the quays; 
▪ Coordinate the harbour and quay usage and manage harbour traffic; 
▪ Pollution and spillage management; 
▪ Ensure that ships using the port obey the port laws and other regulations; 
▪ Promulgate Ferries’ schedule; 
▪ Monitor sea and weather conditions to ensure safe ferry operations; 
▪ In agreement with Ferries’ Masters, cancel tours as determined by the weather and sea conditions; 
▪ Ensure vessels adhere to all safety requirements; 
▪ Represent the Ferries Department in all safety related matters. 
 
Requirements and Experience: 
▪ Deck Officer or equivalent Certification. 
▪ Certificate of Competency must be valid. 
▪ 5 years’ experience as Deck Officer or 3 years as a Master on a vessel. 
▪ Port operations experience will be advantageous. 
▪ Demonstrate knowledge and experience in managing a small harbour, crew and fleet management 
▪ Demonstrate knowledge of local sea conditions and weather. 
▪ Technical knowledge of ferry operations. 
▪ Demonstrate knowledge of Publications required to be carried on board 
▪ Understanding of International Safety Management (ISM) and Safety Management Systems (SMS). 
 
Core Competencies: 
▪ Must be fluent in English, written and oral. 
▪ Understanding of Port Control Lights and VTS 
▪ Computer Literate: MS word/excel/power point/outlook and be able to write up reports. 
▪ Knowledge of the below: 
➢ SAMSA/Class Surveys, 
➢ Dry Docking. 
➢ Hull integrity. 
➢ Regular safety drills, which include Fire Drills, Man Overboard Drills, Dropping of Anchor, First Aid at Sea Drills, Search and Rescue Drills and Evacuation Procedures of a ferry.

▪ Ability to analyse Synoptic chat and interpretation of it. 
▪ Ability to work under pressure. 
▪ Good communication skills.

​CHIEF HERITAGE OFFICER 

5 YEAR CONTRACT 
TOTAL COST TO COMPANY: R 1972 636,16 – R2219 215,68 
The above position, reporting to the CEO, is available in the Heritage Department at Robben Island Museum (RIM). The incumbent will provide strategic management in accordance with the requirements of a World Heritage Site and provide leadership to the departments of Heritage, Estates, Education & Public Programmes, and Tourism 
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
▪ Enhance the internal processes and infrastructure that will enable the smooth running of Heritage, Estates, Education & Public Programmes, and Tourism department operations 
▪ Prepare performance reports for the CEO’s presentation to Council, Department of Culture, Treasury, Parliament, and UNESCO 
▪ Take responsibility for people management and staff development in the above-mentioned departments 
▪ Oversee alignment of budgeting, planning and personnel requirements in accordance with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) 
▪ Facilitate programmatic and institutional visibility (Brand management) 
▪ Monitor and evaluate the performance and risk framework of the service delivery units mentioned above 
▪ Oversee the development and implementation of the Integrated Conservation Management Plan (ICMP) 
▪ Ensure compliance with museum code of ethics and standards in respect of site maintenance, research, conservation, visitor management, interpretation, collections, and exhibitions 
▪ Align the Institution with other similar cultural institutions locally and internationally 
 
Requirements and Experience: 
▪ A master's degree in Heritage/Museum Studies, History, Environmental Studies or equivalent 
▪ A business management qualification will be an added advantage. 
▪ At least 15 years’ relevant experience of which 7 years at Executive level

The above position, reporting to the CEO, is available in the Human Capital Department at Robben Island Museum (RIM). The purpose of this role is to provide strategic leadership on the development and implementation of an integrated Human Resource strategy. The incumbent is expected to champion organisational culture and transformation agenda, partnering with the organisation to create a positive, inclusive and engaging work environment. To influence strategic change and drive HR operational effectiveness. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction on the development and implementation of an integrated Human Resource strategy. 
  • Align Human Resource practices with the organisation’s strategy, annual plans, statutory requirements (e.g. BCEA, EEA, LRA, OHSA) 
  • Ensure development and continuous improvement of Human Resource processes, policies and compliance frameworks. 
  • Provide enabling mechanisms for a seamless end-to-end talent value chain management, including recruitment, retention, succession planning, performance management and employee wellness. 
  • To Develop strategies for the implementation, evaluation and monitoring of the performance management system. 
  • Optimise strategic workforce planning and management processes, providing the organisation with performance metrics analysis and industry benchmarks. 
  • Champion Employee Relations strategies, ensuring sound labour relations and legislations compliance in a unionised environment. 
  • Design skills and learning development strategies, ensuring compliance with statutory training reporting. 
  • Develop HR risk management framework and ensure that controls are implemented at all levels of the organisation.

  • Post Graduate Degree/ master’s degree in human resources or a related field
