FIVE (5) YEAR FIXED TERM EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT

GRADE: P3 
A vacancy exists for a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Robben Island Museum and World Heritage Site. This position reports to the Council of the Robben Island Museum and World Heritage Site.

Robben Island Museum requires the services of a results-driven and people-orientated individual who will add value to its vision of making Robben Island Museum and World Heritage Site the most preferred tourist destination on the continent. 
 
The suitable candidate must be a strategic thinker with strong interpersonal and leadership skills as well as having the ability to manage multi-faceted stakeholder relationships. The candidate must have a proven track record in leading strategic and transformational change successfully and must be focused on driving positive growth on an ongoing basis.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 
 Provide visionary and strategic leadership for the organisation to ensure effective and optimal utilisation of human and financial resource. 
 Ensure alignment between the museum’s strategy, organisational structure and budget. 
 Implement the Council’s resolutions and ensure that its policies are adhered to so as to entrench a culture of good corporate governance. 
 Provide periodic reports to the Council and co-ordinate the compilation of the quarterly and annual reports to the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and Parliament. 
 Ensure the implementation of the Integrated Conservation Management Plan (ICPM), particularly its Interpretation Plan and the Visitor Management Plan. 
 Strive to enhance the visitors’ experience and ensure the museum and World Heritage Site diversifies its tour offerings and sources of income. 
 Ensure that RIM’s Business Model is constantly reviewed and that all operational components are appropriately configured to support it. 
 Be responsible for optimal utilisation and allocation of the museum’s and World Heritage Site’s resources. 
 Strive towards building an effective management team that will guarantee fulfilment of RIM’s strategic goals. 
​ Ensure compliance with the Public Finance Management Act, the Cultural Institutions Act, the World Heritage Convention Act and other relevant legislation. 
 Drive performance management and ensure a culture of accountability within the organisation. 
 Communicate with external stakeholders on behalf of the Council and establish partnerships with other heritage sites and tertiary Institutions. 
 Oversee risk management and ensure that the Council is adequately informed of all risks. 
 Ensure that the world heritage site enhances its research. 
 Manage individual executives and the executive team performance within the organisation. 
 Continuously and strategically market the institution’s capabilities through local and international platforms. 
 Facilitate and support the transformation agenda of Robben Island Museum and World Heritage Sites. 
 Ensure that Robben Island operates according to international best practice and maintains good governance through prudent financial management and ensuring compliance with the Public Finance Management Act, and all other legislation pertaining to South African Museums and World Heritage Sites. 
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 
 A post graduate degree in Social/Management Sciences whilst a qualification in History, Heritage and/or Tourism Studies would be an added advantage. 
 7 or more years’ experience at executive management level in the culture, heritage and tourism sectors. 
 Knowledge of legislation applicable to declared cultural institutions and world heritage sites. 
 Knowledge of Management Principles. 
 Knowledge of Organisational Architecture Principles. 
 Knowledge of Good Corporate Governance. 
 Knowledge of Infrastructure/Facilities Management.
