Purpose of the Job: Reporting to the Manager: Database Administration, the successful incumbent is responsible for the efficient administration of database by conducting an analysis, design, creation and maintenance of all database.

 

Key Performance Areas

Database Maintenance and Design

  • Administration of existing enterprise databases and creation of new databases.
  • Proactively monitor database related dependent systems for optimum performance and capacity constraints.
  • Upgrade database software version and environment upgrades
  • Migrate data and data environment.
  • Define and/or implement access controls to the database
  • Provide support to the engineers in relation to database development.
  • Ensure integration of business applications and databases. 

Security Administration

  • Monitor and administer DBMS security.
  • Administer quotas, audit trails and check for security problems.
  • Verify and assist in ensuring data integrity.

Availability

  • Ensure maximum uptime.
  • Ensure regular backups and test recoverability.
  • Ensure testing of standby services.

Policy Review and Implementation

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policy, standards and procedures and processes.
  • Keep up to date with effective policy and practice execution strategies.

Reporting

  • Provide up-to-date and accurate systems reports and activity reports
  • Provide Database Performance statistics.
  • Provide capacity reports of all hardware components.
  • Audit trails and Logs.
  • Ensure systems performance management and capacity planning.

Stakeholder Management

  • Facilitate and manage communication with relevant internal and external stakeholders in relation to investments and proactively and progressively manage the relationships.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree/ Advanced Diploma in Information Technology related qualification.
  • Relevant database certifications (e.g., Oracle OCA/ OCP, Microsoft SQL Server certifications/ IBM/ Informix certifications) will be an advantage.
  • Relevant 5 - 7 years’ experience in Database Administration (design/ implementation/ maintenance) in a multi database environment.
  • Experience database availability.
  • Experience in monitoring DBMS security.
  • Experience working with cloud database solutions is an advantage.

Purpose of the Job: Reporting to the Senior Manager: Data and Analytics, the successful incumbent is responsible for effectively managing, securing, and optimising RAF’s database environment by ensuring data integrity, high-availability and performance, whilst adhering to best practices and regulatory compliance.

 

Key Performance Areas

 

Database Availability

  • Overseeing the establishment of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with stakeholders.
  • Directing proactive system health checks and monitoring strategies.
  • Leading the team in rapid issue identification and resolution processes.
  • Ensure rapid recovery from any unplanned downtimes.

 

Database Maintenance and Design

  • Provide oversight and guidance on enterprise database architecture.
  • Define and enforce database design standards, naming conventions, normalisation practices, and schema design principles.
  • Review and approve logical and physical data models developed by DBAs or application teams.
  • Forecast future database growth and scalability needs.
  • Lead risk assessment and continuity planning for database infrastructure.

 

Database Performance Optimisation

  • Strategize performance tuning and optimise processes, including indexing and query optimisation.
  • Guide the team on capacity planning and ensuring resource allocation aligns with performance goals.
  • Advocate the use of advanced techniques like caching and data partitioning.
  • Reduce latency and improved efficiency in data processing.

 

 

Data Security

  • Set direction for access control and authentication mechanisms.
  • Ensure that regular updates and patches are applied to safeguard against vulnerabilities.
  • Lead security audits and compliance checks to uphold data integrity.
  • Increase trust amongst stakeholders in RAF’s data handling and storage.

 

Database Backup and Recovery

  • Establish comprehensive backup and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Decide the use of off-site and cloud storage solutions for enhanced data safety.
  • Establish confidence in data integrity and availability among users.

 

Database Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to relevant data protection laws and regulations through policy development.
  • Oversee the implementation of data governance policies.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure ongoing compliance and addressing gaps.
  • Facilitate training and awareness programmes to maintain a high-level of compliance awareness among RAF personnel.

 

Database Automation

  • Lead the adoption of automation for routine database maintenance and monitoring tasks.
  • Champion the use of scripting and orchestration tools to streamline operations.
  • Manage the implementation of automated scaling solutions, particularly for cloud-based resources.

 

Database Capacity Planning and Scalability

  • Manage the development of scalable database architectures.
  • Guide the use of cloud services for flexible resource allocation.
  • Lead strategic planning efforts to ensure database capabilities align with long-term business objectives.
  • Align database capabilities with future business growth and demands.

 

Policy Review and Implementation

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policy, procedures and processes.

  • Enforcing policies for high-availability solutions (e.g. clustering, mirroring, replication, etc).

 

Reporting

  • Ensure thorough preparation and prompt submission of all regulatory reports concerning the Database Administration team’s activities.
  • Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly updates outlining the progress of implementing operational plans for Database Administration initiatives.
  • Report on the effectiveness of the agile database management and possible improvements.

 

People Management

  • Manage staff in the department to ensure that they achieve their objectives in line with the strategic objectives of the RAF.
  • Manage the implementation of people management processes and procedures to control/regulate workplace conflict and/or institute corrective measures and consultation processes to address deviations from standards.
  • Establish partnerships with technology providers and industry groups to stay ahead of technology trends.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree/ Advanced Diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science or Business Administration or Commerce/ Business or Engineering.
  • Postgraduate in Information Technology/ Computer Science/ Business Administration/ Commerce/ Engineering related qualification will be advantageous.
  • Professional certification in any DBMS platform (for e.g., MS SQL, Oracle, etc.) will be advantageous.
  • Relevant 6 - 8 years’ experience in IT or Business Development, or a related field of which 2 years must be on management/ supervisory level.
  • Experience in a developing and building databases, warehouses, reporting and data integration solutions.

Work based exposure may include any of the following:

  • Medical Management – Assist with injury assessment administration, undertakings administration (drafting, issuing, activation, etc.), caregiver management process
  • Bill review: reviewing and processing of medical invoices for Supplier Claims, Past Medical expenses and future medical expenses.
  • Medical Management – Use of risk management tools in bill review including use of medical tariffs, clinical codes and treatment protocol to ensure that all service providers adhere to the rules and the tariff as guided by the RAF and managed healthcare principles

Purpose of the Job: The Senior Officer: Forensics Investigation is responsible for the investigation of irregular business activities including misconduct by RAF employees and crime against the RAF.

 

Key Performance Areas

 

Conducting Investigations

  • Planning and conducting the investigation of cases as assigned to by respective supervisor or management.
  • Maintain partnership relationship with the prosecuting authorities, Law Enforcement agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Drawing of monthly /weekly reports for the office for transmission to the manager.

Work based exposure may include the following: 

  • Conducts monthly reviews to test quality of work, compliance with SOP’s, and strength of internal controls in the units, on a sample basis, in terms of the 2025/2026 QA Plan.
  • Facilitate PAIA requests.
  • Quality Assurance and checks on Direct Claims offers
  • Quality Assurance and checks on the Directive: Receipting Practices
  • Facilitate and ensure closure of tasks on the Risk Register.
  • Assist on closing Internal Audit findings and report on action plans.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation of writs.
  • Facilitate and resolve exceptions noted in monthly Exception Reports
  • Quality Assurance and checks on offer / payment memos above R3 million
  • Spot Quality Assurance and checks on offer / payment memos below R3 million
  • Quality Assurance and checks on memos requesting Legal Representation
  • Quality Assurance and checks memos requesting approval for Rescission of the Court Order

 

Qualifications and other Requirements

  • Certified copy of Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • B degree / Advanced Diploma in Law/ Finance/ Commerce/ Risk/ Compliance or related qualification to the discipline.
  • Certified copy of your ID
  • Certified copy of Academic transcript
  • Your CV and motivational letter

Remuneration 

The interns will be awarded a monthly stipend.
