ROAD ACCIDENT FUND (RAF)
The Road Accident Fund's mission is to provide appropriate cover to all road users within the borders of South Africa; to rehabilitate and compensate persons injured as a result of motor vehicle accidents in a timely and caring manner; and to actively promote safe use of our roads.
The Organisation requires the services of a qualified individual for the following position based in the East London Regional Office.

Purpose of the Job: To identify, on a timely basis, those claims for which there is a litigious dispute to enable settlement offers/tenders promptly and also those that require thorough, early investigation and rigorous development of the legal defence issues to enable a trial strategy which is reflective of the case's value.
Key Performance Areas
Conduct Preliminary assessment of litigated files
- Investigate, evaluate and settle claims, applying technical knowledge and human relations skills to effect fair and prompt disposal of cases and to contribute to a reduced legal costs ratio
- Report complex, severe exposure claims for reinsurance purposes
Recommend a litigation strategy and actions to bring the matter to finality
- Consult with plaintiff attorney to hold pleadings\ notices in abeyance until cancellation by either plaintiff attorney

- Give instruction to panel attorney on
-Issues on merits
-Issues on quantum
-Agreement of experts, where applicable
- Arrange follow up consultation date
- Diarise the file
Monitor plan and strategy
- Evaluate outstanding information
- Assess claims for possible settlement
- Evaluate expert medico legal reports
- Follow up on outstanding information until all documents has been received
- Repetitive diarising on 6th weekly basis
Escalate matters with litigious disputes to pleadings processes
- Verify and analyze data used in settling litigated claims to ensure that there is a litigious dispute and that decisions for further litigation process are made according to company practices, policies and procedures
- Confer with panel attorneys legal counsel on the litigation strategy to be embarked on in preparation of trial and receive requests for approval in terms of the delegation of authority
- Ensure high court practice notes are followed
- Examine claims investigated by panel attorneys, further investigate questionable claims to determine whether to authorize settlements or tenders
Qualifications and Experience
- NQF 6 (Diploma or Advanced Certificate) related qualification to discipline
- Relevant 2 years working experience in a claims /Insurance/MVA environment

- A good understanding of the organization's business and how panel attorneys effectively to contributes or are to contribute to the RAF litigation processes

- Excellent communication skills orally and in writing
- Awareness of RAF vision and Strategic /business objectives
Remuneration
Total cost to company of the minimum remuneration package applicable to this position is R270 525.00 per annum and will be negotiable commensurate with experience.
NB: "RAF offers Total Employment Cost packages with no additional contributions from the Employer, successful candidates are required to structure their packages in a manner that will suit their needs"
