Assistant to the Director (Grade 11)
Residential Operations

The Department of Residential Operations invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 


Main Objectives
To work closely with the Director to provide effective and efficient personal administrative, project and organisational support which will enable the Director to effectively serve the University in the execution of responsibilities, duties, tasks and to meet strategic objectives as well as to provide administrative and front-line service to the Office of the Director, Residential Operations Managers and other groups requiring services of the Residential Operations Division.
 
The Requirements
A B. Degree/Diploma (NQF level 7) plus 4 years relevant experience where such experience includes: - 
  • At least 1 year should be working with an individual at a senior level (e.g., HoDs, Directors, Hall Wardens or a middle manager).
  • At least 3 years previous administrative experience within a computerised environment where planning, co-ordinating and executing administrative processes and where the job required a high degree of multi-tasking.
  • Previous experience in assisting with the planning, co-ordination and executing of projects or events.
  • Administrative experience within a university and/or large scale operational/service orientated environment will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience handling queries (staff, members of the public etc.)

Remuneration per annum (Grade 11):
Basic Pensionable Salary per annum: R 380,997

Senior Lecturer/Lecturer (SL/L) in the Department of Literary Studies in English

The Requirements
 
Lecturer:
Candidates are required to hold a PhD in English, Literary Studies, or a closely related discipline. Candidates who have evidence of their PhD having been submitted for examination may also be considered. Candidates should have an  ability to teach and interest in one or more of the following areas:
African literature, South African literature, Postcolonial Literature, Literary Theory, Postmodern literature.
A keenness to teach Academic writing will be an added advantage.

In addition, the following requirements are applicable:
  • Some teaching experience is required. Should be acquainted with online/ blended teaching, testing and marking or be willing to immediately acquire these skills once on the job through workshop attendance or other developmental opportunities.
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate students as research supervision at Honours, Masters and PhD levels as per qualification will be required once in the job.
  • Some evidence and experience of conducting research.
  • Track record of administration, management and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).
 
Senior Lecturer:
Candidates are required to hold a PhD in English, Literary Studies, or a closely related discipline, with teaching experience and interest in one or more of the following areas:
African literature, South African literature, Postcolonial Literature, Literary Theory, Postmodern literature.
A keenness to teach Academic writing will be an added advantage.
 
In addition, the following requirements are applicable:
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required.
  • Research supervision of at least Masters’ degrees required.
  • Emerging national profile in the discipline and credible record of publication in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Track record of administration, management and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

Main Objectives
To support the Senior HR Practitioner in providing a valued and professional HR service, specifically through the execution of excellent HR administrative and basic HR professional services.  The HR Officer and the Senior HR Practitioner will operate in a unit.  These units report into the Manager: Recruitment and Staffing.
 
The Requirements
Degree (with a relevant major, preferably in Industrial Psychology or Human Resources) plus approximately three years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -
  •  Administration with a strong focus on implementing electronic administrative systems and processes.
  • At least one year of experience in HR administration within an environment utilizing an HR information technology system.
  • Implementing structures, systems, and processes to ensure service delivery of a high quality that is valued by others.
  • Exposure to most, if not all, areas of HR (for example, Recruitment and Selection, Employee Relations, Training and Development, Remuneration, Performance Management, HR IT systems, and Well-being) will be a considerable advantage.
  • At least 18 months of experience in a pressurized, high-volume administrative environment, dealing with a large staff complement (minimum of 500 employees).
  • Previous experience within the Higher Education sector will be an advantage
