Main Objectives
All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), and engaging in community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various Departments and Faculties.  Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty, and/or University levels.

In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor are to provide academic leadership in the following areas: teaching and learning, research and community engagement, and contribute towards the institution's governance. This leadership contribution of the Professor should be evidenced at the departmental, Faculty and institutional levels.

The Requirements
A PhD in Economics coupled with at least 10 years of experience in the field, which could be in an academic environment or a senior position in industry, where such experience includes:
  • Considerable teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Considerable teaching experience in Public Finance and Policy with quantitative skills and expertise in Econometrics.
  • Proven track record of research in Economics
  • Research supervision of Masters and PhD required.
  • An emerging international and national profile in the discipline.

nGAP Lecturer in the Department of Statistics at Rhodes University

The Requirements 
  • At least a Masters in Mathematical Statistical Sciences or Mathematics (Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence), but not in Operations Research / Applied Statistics / Demography / Decision Science / Analytics / Applied Mathematics. If Masters in Mathematics, at least an Honours degree in Mathematical Statistics is required. The Department of Statistics teaches mathematical statistics with emphasis on the development of the statistical theory and the subsequent application thereof and not necessarily the application of statistics.
 
As per nGAP requirements, a minimum average of 70% pass mark is required for the Master’s degree.
  • Tutoring, facilitation or conference presentation experience required
  • Ability to teach in one or more of the following disciplinary areas of Mathematical Statistics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels: Distribution theory; Multivariate Analysis; Generalized Linear Models; Classification/Statistical Learning; Bayesian Statistics; Financial Statistics; Stochastic Processes; Time Series Analysis; Bootstrap; Linear Algebra; Calculus.
  • Some administrative experience albeit in informal contexts e.g., student or sports clubs, work experiences.

To ensure overall co-ordination of the RUCE Engaged Citizenry Programmes.  Manage Programmes in the VC’s Education Initiative (Makhanda Literacy Collective, which includes the Budding Q Literacy Programme) is focussed, well-planned, data-driven, organised and coordinated, respectful, mutually beneficial and undertaken in the spirit of reciprocity.  This forms part of the institutional plan to address access to RU, social justice and inequality and the VC’s Education Programme goals for Makhanda.
 
The Requirements
A relevant B. Degree (preferably in Education): candidates with a relevant postgraduate qualification will be at an advantage plus six (6) years of relevant experience where such experience includes: - 
  • Previous administrative and coordination experience in running a programme
  • Ability to work within a computerised administration environment
  • Experience and interest in early literacy development
  • Demonstrable community development experience,
  • Experience in volunteering
  • Previous experience within a service-orientated environment where liaison and the provision of sound advice and/or service were key responsibilities
