Associate Professor/Professor 
Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 

Main Objectives
All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), and engaging in community engagement, recognising differences in executing these responsibilities within the various departments and faculties. Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, faculty, and/or university levels and contribute to their profession.
In addition, a professor and associate professor provide academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, and community engagement and contribute towards the institution's governance. This professor's leadership contribution should be evidenced at the departmental, faculty, and institutional levels.
 
The Requirements
 
Associate Professor:
  • At least a PhD in Chemistry.
  • Considerable teaching experience in organic chemistry at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Experience teaching topics related to organic synthesis, green chemistry, medicinal chemistry and natural products.
  • Track record in Masters’ and Doctoral supervision to completion.
  • National and emerging international profile in the discipline.
  • Track record of research publications in organic chemistry and in attracting research funding.
  • Track record of administration, management, and leadership roles and be willing to take on the role of the Head of Department when required.
Professor:
  • At least a PhD in Chemistry.
  • Extensive teaching experience in organic chemistry at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Experience teaching topics related to organic synthesis, green chemistry, medicinal chemistry and natural products.
  • Track record in Masters’ and Doctoral supervision to completion.
  • International profile in the discipline.
  • Track record of research publications in organic chemistry and in attracting research funding.
  • Track record of administration, management, and leadership roles and be willing to take on the role of the Head of Department when required.

Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer (Grade L/SL)
Department of Sociology and Industrial Sociology
The Department of Sociology and Industrial Sociology invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 

Main Objectives

The Requirements
Lecturer
  • A PhD in Sociology. Candidates who provide evidence of their PhD thesis being under examination will be considered.
  • Some teaching experience is required. Should be acquainted with online/ blended teaching, testing and marking or be willing to immediately acquire these skills once on the job through workshop attendance or other developmental opportunities.
  • Some experience in teaching Social Theory is required. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate ability and interest in Social Theory.
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate students is required.
  • Some evidence and experience of conducting research.
  • Some record of administration, management and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal) 
 
Senior Lecturer
  • A PhD in Sociology.
  • Considerable teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required.
  • Teaching experience in Social Theory is required.
  • Experience of research supervision up to at least Masters’ degrees to completion is required.
  • Emerging national profile in the discipline and a credible record of accredited, peer-reviewed publications.
  • Track record of administration, management and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

nGAP Lecturer in the Department of Law at Rhodes University

The Requirements 
At least an LLM degree in criminal/civil procedure, preceded by an LLB degree from a South African University, with a commitment to register for and pursue a PhD in criminal/civil procedure within six months from the date of appointment.  Candidates are expected to complete their PhD within the first four years of the nGAP in line with the programme's requirements. Tutoring or facilitation experience and commitment to a career in academia are required.
  • Ability to teach and research in civil/criminal procedure
  • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal)
As per nGAP requirements, a minimum average of 70% pass mark is required for the Master’s degree.
