Main Responsibilities:
Operational Veterinary Management

- All monitoring equipment to be calibrated frequently to ensure accuracy, to detect equipment malfunctions and to verify compliance with incubator temperature and ventilation standards
- Supervise the adjustment of controls to maintain specified incubating conditions
- Periodically inspect eggs in incubators to ascertain hatching progress, and hatch windows based on fertility and EST’s.
- Observe the chick holding areas and dispatching of chicks to verify adherence to animal welfare and environmental conditions for chick comfort.
- Supervise all operations relating to stock control, hygiene and cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of incubators including structural and equipment compliance.
- Ensure that stand by electricity generators, water- and air-cooling systems, cold storerooms and compressors used in the production of quality day old chicks, are serviced, maintained and personal trained to operate these critical equipment are competent.
- Control the status of vaccines and the logistics associated with the vaccination syringes and the care of sterilizers, staff training on efficient and safe vaccination procedures and environmentally friendly waste disposal
- Plan, organize and manage the biosecurity and management practices for profitable production of quality chicks under safe and hygienic conditions
- Analyses of daily hatchery data and genetic/flock data on chicks hatched prior to any necessary operational adjustment’s changes.

- Ensure that effective rodent control measures are in place.
- The hatchery is cleaned, washed and sanitized daily, grounds are maintained weekly, fence lines are secured and clear of any waste and debris, drains on site are cleared, disinfected and kept clean daily, all waste and debris removed from the site and buildings on site are well maintained including CCTV systems.
- Ensure that all security procedures are adhered to and that access doors and gates are always locked to prevent unauthorized and unmonitored access.

Role Purpose:
Agric Northern Region is looking for x4 Farmers for the Rustenburg Zuurplaat site to manage the operations, resources and manpower of a site thereby ensuring an optimal number of the right quality birds at the right time and at the lowest cost.
Required Qualifications:
- A degree or diploma in Animal Production
- Valid Code EB drivers’ licence
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a similar environment, 2 to 3 of which should be in a supervisory capacity.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge:
- Poultry production inclusive of breeder and broiler management
- Understand basic poultry nutrition, growth, anatomy, reproduction and biosecurity
- Agricultural and farm operations and processes
- Ability to recognize ventilation, brooding, feeding and water requirements of the birds and make the correct adjustments

Key Responsibilities
- House Preparation prior to placement in order to create ideal conditions for bird production.
- Chick Placement – co –ordinate and monitor staff, liaises with the hatchery, chick placing foremen,
- Post placement of chicks (Brooding conditions) – Evaluation of chick quality, recording of vent temperatures, temperature setting.
- Growing conditions – Daily monitoring of the bird performance which entails feed intake, water recordings, temp and humidity recordings, mortality recordings
- Ventilation management – Adjust ventilation static pressure to achieve minimum and maximum bird requirement.
- Water Management - Water sampling prior to placement, flushing of the water lines three times in a week, sanitation of house water reticulation, daily water pressure setting and nipple height.
- Feed management – Receiving and Recording of feed deliveries relative to feed programme; daily bin stock counts; management of feed heights; adjustment of feeder levels according to bird’s size; monitoring of feed quality(% of fine feed); sampling of feed when the truck arrives.
- Outsource activities – Preparation of the house environment prior to catching commencing; all documentation relative to catching need to check accuracy with the broiler planner; good communication and planning with the catching team and logistics to minimize any holding time.
- Biosecurity and Farm sanitation – Maintaining an effective biosecurity programme by practicing good hygiene, vaccination and disease prevention.
- Bird Health – Daily monitoring and activity of birds, and sending of post mortems to the laboratory as per VCD.
- Record Keeping – Keep the documentation files updated.
- Staff management – Keep and update daily registers, mdwt’s, disciplinary records, training records; review meetings.

Purpose of the Role:
To ensure adherence to Rainbow’s Total Integrated Management System
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitors product quality by observation of on line practices and completion of necessary check sheets
- Conducts observations and tests on poultry products to ensure that specifications are met in terms of pick ups, operator working instructions’ parameters, machine setting parameters
- Reports deviations and advises of the necessary corrective actions to Processing and Engineering when required
- Follow ups on the implementation of corrective actions and escalates to higher authority if not actioned.
- Observes that employees on the line adhere to ISO, GMP and HACCP practices and advises on necessary corrective action required when contravened
- Monitors and ensures adherence to contractual customer specific, regulatory and internal requirements as per specifications
- Practices good housekeeping in their areas of work
- Prepares graphs and reports on quality measurements in area of responsibility for management to scrutinize and analyze,, and for record keeping and audit purposes
