HEAD: INVESTMENT LEGAL
Grade: E5 – F1 
(Ref: HIL001) 
Salary: All-inclusive remuneration package negotiable 
Division: Investment Legal 
 
Purpose of the role: 
To ensure that the organisation follows relevant Laws and business rules when implementing client mandates utilizing an enterprise-wide framework for the identification, assessment, measurement, reporting and monitoring of risk with a view to achieve the client’s and the corporation’s objectives and risk strategy. 
 
Requirements:
  • Postgraduate degree or certification such as LLM or equivalent 
  • MBA or postgraduate Business Administration degree is an added advantage 
  • FAIS RE 05 Certificate or must be obtained within 6 months of employment 
  • At least 10 – 15 years post-admission experience in the financial industry and/or investment environment of which 3 - 5 years must be in the senior management role 
  • A good understanding of the key areas of the corporation 
 
Duties:
  • Setting the strategic direction of the Investment Legal team 
  • Develop and maintain a risk management framework for the investment divisions to ensure a structured approach to risk identification, assessment, measurement, reporting and monitoring in the corporation 
  • Monitoring compliance with clients’ mandates, applicable legislations, laws, regulations and industry codes of standards in the corporation and its subsidiaries 
  • Provide legal risk assessments and oversight for unlisted investments, properties and listed investments 
  • Measurement, analysis and mitigation of investment performance and associated risks 
  • Providing training, advice and support to business on investment risk, compliance risk and operational risk management 
  • Reporting as appropriate to the executive management, Board/Board committees clients and regulators 
  • Promote the combined assurance model for the corporation (Investment Legal, all Investment Divisions, Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance) 
  • Leadership of the Investment Legal team

  • Knowledge of governmental regulations. 
  • Skill in developing comprehensive reports. 
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex data

HEAD: RESEARCH AND INNOVATION
Grade: E5 – F1 
(Ref: HRI001)

Division: Research and Innovation 
 
Purpose of the role: 
The position’s primary role is to support the process of researching, defining, prioritizing and executing new strategic initiatives. Lead and develop forward-looking macro and sector research to support listed and unlisted investments and generate investment ideas and strategies that can be implemented on PIC clients’ portfolios. Drive innovative research and thinking that will give the PIC a competitive advantage over its peers. Lead and oversee the early-stage fund to grow new black enterprises in the SA economy. 
 
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in economics/Investments/Mathematics/Statistics/Finance, or MBA/CFA 
  • 10 to 15 years relevant experience of which at least 5 years must be within the senior management role 
  • Experience in macroeconomics, financial markets, sector analysis (various sectors) and investment strategy formulation 
  • Experience in translating research to implementable investment ideas on different asset classes. 
  • Understanding and knowledge of the venture capital market will be an advantage 
 
Duties:
  • Lead the top-down macroeconomic analysis and outlook and its impact on various asset classes. 
  • Advise and support the CIO on asset allocation strategies. 
  • Lead, develop and update sector investment strategies and thematic research to be implemented in PIC investments. 
  • Provide thought leadership pieces on the macro-economy, sectors, financial markets, investment strategy, regulation, and other developments of note. 
  • Identify investment opportunities based on investment themes and work with transaction teams to implement investment ideas. 
  • Strategy formulation, implementation, review, and adaptation for the Early-stage Fund. 
  • Lead and manage the investment process of the Early-stage Fund. 
  • Human Resource Management, stakeholder management and financial management. 
 
Competencies and skills:

Division: Properties
 
Purpose of the role: 
To unlock value for Clients and to Provide Strategic leadership in repositioning the PIC Property portfolio (direct and indirect assets) and related investment vehicles to generate commercial returns whilst impacting the socio-economic landscape as part of the developmental mandate of the PIC 
 
Requirements:
  • Postgraduate degree in property studies, quantity surveying, building science, property development & management or equivalent qualification (NQF level 8) 
  • Business Management postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage 
  • FAIS RE 05 and 03 Certificate or must be obtained within 6 months of employment 
  • Minimum 10 – 15 years experience within the Property Investment Industry of which 5 years must be in Senior Management 
  • Knowledge of Property Asset Management, Property Law, Property Development, Property Acquisition & Disposal, Accounting and performance calculation 
  • Sound & Strong Leadership with prior Board experience 
 
Duties:
  • Setting the overall strategic vision, leadership, growth and direction of the Properties division 
  • Develop the unlisted property Investment strategy and oversee its implementation for optimal outcomes in line with client mandates and expectations. 
  • Lead dynamic teams in executing unlisted property investments ethically and efficiently 
  • Continuous optimisation of property portfolios both direct and indirect assets and related investment vehicles to meet client return objectives 
  • Involvement at Senior Management/Executive level to ensure business efficiency and effectiveness 
  • Portfolio risk management in line with client mandates 
  • Lead dynamic teams in executing unlisted property investments ethically and efficiently
