We are currently seeking applications from dynamic individuals for the following position:
SECTOR SPECIALIST: FINANCIAL SERVICES AND FINANCIAL INCLUSION
Salary: All-inclusive remuneration package negotiable
Centre: Research and Innovation

Purpose of the role:
As part of the Research and Innovation team, the candidate will support both the Listed and Unlisted teams with the generation of well-researched investment ideas, industry-leading sector knowledge, strategic initiatives and contribute to growth in assets under management.
Requirements:
- Postgraduate Degree in Commerce, Finance or equivalent qualification. Master’s degree/MBA/CFA would be advantageous.
- At least 5 - 8 years of relevant experience independently covering financial services research and analysis (banks, insurers, asset managers, micro lenders, etc.).
- Experience in undertaking sector research with implications for the economy, financial markets and investments is key.
- Experience of implementing research views on investment portfolios
- FAIS RE5 Certificate or it must be obtained within 6 months of employment
Duties:
- Produce industry-leading proprietary research that generates investment views and ideas in the Financial Services and Financial Inclusion sectors.
- Identify investment opportunities across the unlisted Financial Services / Inclusion sectors.
- Research and analyse the impact of current as well as evolving macro themes and trends in the Financial Services/ financial inclusion sector.
- Develop industry-leading knowledge on sectorial key value creation drivers and response to various macro environments.
- Identify and generate sector, intra-sector and cross-sector investable opportunities.
- Develop, analyse and update valuation models for private companies. Estimate sector returns.
- Remain up-to-date on developments in global financial markets and economics.
- Assist deal teams in understanding the key risks and opportunities during the due diligence process, when potential investments are being evaluated.
- Assist with deal origination for PIC’s Project Development Partnership Fund.
- Prepare speaking and briefing notes for executive and non-executive directors on various topics.

Purpose of the role:
As part of the Research and Innovation team, the candidate will support both the Listed and Unlisted teams with the generation of well-researched investment ideas, industry-leading sector knowledge, strategic initiatives and contribute to growth in assets under management.
Requirements:
- Post Graduate Qualification (NQF 8) in Commerce, Finance or equivalent relevant qualification. Master’s degree/MBA/CFA would be advantageous.
- At least 7 years’ Relevant Experience as an Agricultural Economist or Agri-Business Specialist. Experience within asset management/banking/DFI with a focus on agri transactions/investments
- Experience in undertaking research with implications for the agri industry, economy and investments is key.
- Experience of Implementing research views in investment portfolios
- High-level research innovation and creativity that can translate into investment ideas to be implemented on the PIC Portfolio.
- FAIS RE5 Certificate or it must be obtained within 6 months of employment
Duties:
- Produce industry-leading proprietary research that generates investment views and ideas in agriculture & agri-processing for implementation in the PIC Portfolio.
- Identify investment opportunities in agriculture & agri-business for unlisted investment divisions.
- Undertake thematic research and thoughtful leadership pieces to drive investment strategy.
- Develop and update sector investment strategies for agriculture and agri-business.
- Undertake market research analysis for unlisted transactions.
- Monitor risks affecting the agriculture industry and the impact of PIC agri investments and portfolio.
- Support the deal team during the due diligence process and in evaluating new potential investments, as well as the post-investment teams in value creation initiatives and turning businesses in distress around.
- Supervising and mentoring senior analysts and research analysts.
