REQUIREMENTS: Incumbent should have a relevant Senior Certificate / Grade 12/ NCV Certificate (Level 4). Incumbent must be in possession of a recognised Diploma or equivalent qualification at REQV 13 level, along with a completed trade test as a qualified Plumber. Teachers’ qualification. An Education, Training and Development Practice (ETDP) qualification or a related qualification will be advantageous. Registration as an Assessor and/or Moderator with a relevant SETA, as well as with a recognised Professional Body, will serve as an added advantage. The ideal candidate must have sound knowledge of the plumbing industry, including applicable legislation and regulatory frameworks such as Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations. Proven skills in lesson planning, training facilitation, and assessment of apprentices are essential. Candidates must demonstrate strong planning and organising abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to compile accurate reports. Key competencies include interpersonal skills, leadership and mentorship abilities, conceptual thinking, customer service orientation, professionalism, and commitment to continuous improvement.
DUTIES: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing theoretical and practical training in the Plumbing trade in line with the approved curriculum and lesson frameworks. Duties include the assessment and moderation of apprentices’ theoretical and practical competencies against predetermined programme requirements. The incumbent must ensure that all training equipment, workshops, and related resources are available, functional, and subject to regular inventory control. The role also includes performing administrative and reporting duties such as preparing training registers, maintaining apprentice files, and submitting required documentation to relevant authorities and oversight bodies.
The candidate will be expected to attend industry-related workshops and prescribed training programmes to support ongoing professional development. Ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations within the training environment is essential. Additional responsibilities include planning the delivery of the occupational qualification to adequately prepare apprentices for assessments and trade testing. Managing the scheduling of apprentices for both theoretical training and industry placement components of the programme.
