ROLE DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Foreman Engineering: Shaft, the role will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, faultfinding and repair of Medium Voltage & Low Voltage electrical equipment within the electrical discipline according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide subject matter expertise and skills in area of responsibility; advising on solutions to enhance or ensure the effectiveness of the department/section.
Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act Regulations and Manufacturing and Company Standards to report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Foreman.
Reports faults and unsafe conditions to the Central Control Room.
Participate in planning shutdowns (Planned maintenance), resources, tools and spares relevant to the shutdown activities
Identify spares requirements and order according to departmental procedure.
Responsible for the management of consumable stock levels (amongst others, spares and hydrocarbons).
Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery according to the maintenance requirements.
Assist Foreman in executing his/her duties as and when required.
Conduct planned task observations.
Follow instructions as per job card and report any defects.
De-energise and apply the lockout procedure as per company policy.
Responsible for electrical motor installation and replacement.
Responsible for electrical distribution and control cable installation, jointing and termination.
Responsible for gully /LT DB Box (Low Tension Distribution box) installation and maintenance.
Responsible for motor control centre and distribution board installation.
Responsible for the installation of lighting systems.
Responsible for medium voltage protection systems.
Responsible for MV capacitor bank maintenance.
Responsible for substation battery maintenance and general substation housekeeping.
Responsible for medium voltage switching.
Responsible for the maintenance of electrical equipment (e.g. MV and LV Switchgear, substations, Electrical Motors, Lighting Systems, MCC panels, Electrical distribution boards).
Responsible for overhead crane maintenance.
Responsible for winder machinery, maintenance signal devices and safety devices as applicable.
Responsible for winder control (i.e. thyristor drives) as applicable.
Responsible for compressor maintenance as applicable
Responsible for electrical reticulation of ventilation equipment e.g. main / booster fans as applicable.
Responsible for emergency generators power supplies as applicable
Responsible for maintenance of elevators and safety devices as applicable
Responsible for maintenance of transformers
Responsible for inspections and maintenance of all electrical ground handling equipment
Responsible for good housekeeping in working area.
Provide input in preparing maintenance and inspection schedules.
Conduct maintenance planning.
Responsible for trade related administration.
Tend to electrical breakdowns on trackless machinery.
Perform standby duties and attend to breakdowns
Conduct on-the-job training for allocated apprentices.
Ensure that all Engineering reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines and schedules.

Qualified Electrician Trade Certificate through a recognised institution and apprenticeship**
3 years post Apprenticeship/Qualification experience (can be concurrent with the PDL trade experience)

** Candidates holding a QCTO (Section 26D) Trade Test, where the learning route is not specified on the Certificate, must submit the following: Statement of results issued by an accredited MQA trade test centre as well as evidence of training conducted at a technical training centre (e.g. Portfolio of Evidence, Logbooks). Should these documents not be submitted, the application will not be considered. Candidates holding S28 Trade Test certificates from non-Mining Sector centres will not be considered.

National N Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Light Current or Instrumentation and Process Control, OR
S4 National Diploma in Instrumentation and Process Control.
2 years relevant experience in Control & Instrumentation (C & I) in a mining environment.
Sound knowledge of field instrumentation and control systems.
Knowledge of SCADA/WinCC.
Advantageous: Knowledge of ground movement monitoring systems.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
Troubleshoot and resolve LAN/WAN errors.
Develop relevant measurement reports.
Perform diagnostics on control and instrumentation systems.
Learn to use new software applications quickly.
Measure and report on C & I system health.
Code basic scripts to automate tasks.
