LIGHTING TECHNICIAN 
All-Inclusive Salary R305 204 – R499 428 
 
 
MIINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 
• NQF Level 6 / Three years’ diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering / Lighting Design and Technology / Theatre Lighting Design or similar; 
• 3 years’ experience in a theatre or similar / related environment as a lighting technician (or similar / related role) assistant or trainee; 
• Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work irregular hours. 
 
JOB SPECIFICATIONS 
• Ability to read and understand designs for the lighting of productions; 
• Ability to understand the Lighting Designer requirements and deliver as per expectations; 
• Expert use of manual and computer-controlled lighting systems during the show; 
• Plotting, gelling and rigging of lighting for the show and operating the lighting console during productions in the theatre as required; 
• Breaking down and returning all temporary equipment to the stores after a production; 
• Keep an up-to-date inventory or register of sound and lighting equipment; 
• Account for missing sound and lighting equipment 
• Ensure that sound and lighting equipment is always in good working order through repair and maintenance.

Please note: The above-mentioned salary range is all-inclusive and the entry level is only negotiable if the incumbent’s current earning is above the entry level. Also note that the appointed person will sometimes be expected to work after hours and on weekends, but within the statutory number of hours, without additional compensation. Further note that this position does not qualify for overtime pay.
