JOB TITLE: Senior Manager: Credit Management – 6 Months Contract

Mission:
To develop appropriate policies and procedures to manage the credit control process in an effective and efficient manner, ensuring that the granting of credit occurs in compliance with the policy and in accordance with the agreed authority limits. To identify financial risk areas and to ensure that risk management processes are in place to either eliminate or mitigate against any potential credit risks to PRASA CRES.
 
 
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure that there is alignment between the strategic objectives of the Finance, REAM and the Legal Departments and that the Regional Managers are provided with appropriate support levels to enable them to maintain a positive relationship with REAM.
• Regularly review and update the financial and other controls (including PFMA compliance) that are in place to ensure that they are adequate to eliminate or mitigate against any risks to PRASA CRES.
• Ensure that weekly and monthly management reports are accurate, complete and timeous, and that they provide relevant information that can be relied upon for decision making purposes by management.
• Perform trend analysis to identify areas requiring attention or intervention and design additional exception reports as required.
• Ensure that the reconciliation processes allow for the completion of requirements and perform regular spot checks.
• Guide the management of the credit collection process and ensure that agreed targets are consistently met in terms of debtor’s days outstanding by category.
• Oversee the credit evaluation process that is conducted on all new accounts and ensure that these adequately assess the risk profile of the customers.
• Coordinate the follow-up of issues in the external audit management letter or in the internal control reports and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and in a satisfactory manner.
• Lead and manage the staff within Credit Management by ensuring that staff performance is evaluated on a regular basis.
• Develop and implement an internal strategy that is aligned with achievement of PRASA, CRES Commercialization Strategy.
• Ensure that procedures are in place to manage the safeguarding and collection of miscellaneous revenue.
• Identify opportunities for change in either systems or departmental processes that will deliver efficiency gains or will provide for more effective management processes.
• Ensure effective cost Centre management in terms of annual budgets and manage cost containment initiatives in credit management environment.
• Ensure that the financial position, profitability and cash flows of PRASA CRES are maintained and enhanced by effective management of the debtors’ book, accurate cash flow forecasting and management and through the limitation of credit risk and bad debt write offs.
• Attend and provide support to PRASA CRES EXCO, including Leasing Approval Revenue Protection SOP’s and any other that are convened where credit management’s inputs are relevant.
• Support and input to the customer contract management process.

 
Knowledge: Knowledge of railway operations would be preferred. Understanding of all relevant legislation, specifically including PFMA & Treasury regulations. Broad business acumen. An understanding of Credit management principles. Involvement in the Design and implementation of processes. Basic knowledge of SAP & reports. Working knowledge of customer contractual agreements and implications. Financial analysis Familiarity with internal & external auditing processes

Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12
• BCom Honours or similar is required. A CA(SA) qualification will be an added advantage
• At least 8 years’ experience in a commercial role with specific responsibility for accounts receivable, with at least 5 of those years in a managerial function.
