JOB TITLEGeneral Manager: Strategy (5-year contract)

DEPARTMENTAL MISSION: To support PRASA’s Administrator and leadership in defining and communicating PRASA’s strategic objectives and goals as well as on planning key business programmes.
 
 
OUTPUTS:
Strategy formulation/development and implementation
• Lead the development and review of PRASA’s business strategy/corporate plan.
• Promote alignment of strategic objectives between Business Units and functions.
• Conduct strategic benchmarks.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of PRASA’s vision and mission.
• Identify the risks and opportunities in all aspects of sustainability and assess these against the organisation’s values, goals and strategy.
• Support the overall process of management and corporate decision-making to ensure the organisation maximises its short, medium and long-term sustainability.
• Provide thought leadership, guidance, training and support on strategy development and implementation.
 
Business Planning
• Provide leadership in ensuring a coordinated and integrated approach to overall business planning.
• Define and implement business planning processes, templates and procedures.
• Support Group EXCO members in implementing best practices in terms of business planning.
• Facilitate and lead discussions and analysis of current and future strategic options to ensure that the sustainability and growth objectives of the business are met.
• Liaise with Group Executive Committee members on the implementation of the company’s strategic and business plans.
• Identify risks in relation to business’ strategic plans and ensure development of actions to mitigate the risks.
 
 
Lead and ensure key stakeholder’s involvement in PRASA’s strategic planning processes
• Engage the Shareholder on issues of public policy and strategic direction and ensure alignment of PRASA’s strategic programs to its mandate as well as expectations of the Shareholder.
• Lead the process of engaging other key business stakeholders on matters of strategic importance.
• Define systems and processes to solicit the interests, concerns, feedback etc. of stakeholder.
• Ensure that the feedback and input of stakeholders is used to create strategic priorities
• Facilitate the creation of strategic partnerships with stakeholders to fast track implementation of strategic priorities.
• Promote and ensure awareness of the business’ strategic plans, goals and objectives to all its stakeholders
 
 
KNOWLEDGE: 
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of the SA legislative framework, Corporate Governance, and Financial Principles
• Training/advanced knowledge of strategic planning processes 
• In depth knowledge of strategy formulation and implementation
• Knowledge and understanding of the corporate identity of the organisation and the different mechanisms utilised to define the corporate identity
• Extensive knowledge of the business environment

CAPABILITIES:
Minimum requirements
• NQF level 8/Honours in Commerce or Business Strategy or Post graduate Qualification in Management
• Ideal: Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Experience:
• Fifteen (15) years’ experience in Corporate Strategy development, implementation, and evaluation
AND
• Three (3) Senior Management Experience
Legal requirement:
• Valid South African driver’s license
