ACCOUNTANT
The Office of the Ombud for Financial Services Providers (FAIS Ombud), is established in terms of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, 37 of 2002 (the FAIS Act). Its objective is to consider and dispose of complaints in a procedurally fair, informal, economical and expeditious manner and by reference to what is equitable in all circumstances. The FAIS Ombud’s offices are located in the East of Pretoria in Gauteng.
In order to discharge its mandate the FAIS Ombud requires an Accountant who will be responsible for inter alia:-
Maintenance of the general ledger;
Set up new general ledger accounts when required;
Reconciliation of control accounts by ensuring the correct allocation of expenditure to relevant accounts and producing an accurate and complete trial balance;
Draft monthly management accounts and the preparation of ad-hoc reports as required;
Update, implement and improve, where applicable, existing internal accounting systems and introducing new systems and controls where appropriate;
Compile a monthly payroll reconciliation for all FAIS Ombud employees;
Perform reconciliations (petty cash, cash book, debtors and creditors, general ledger);
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivables;
Manage the recording, maintenance, movement and collection of assets including debtor, cash, fixed and current assets;
Ensure that all disposals and assets acquired are accurately recorded in terms of the entity’s policy, SARS guidelines and accounting standards;
Collaborate with Supply Chain Management to prepare payments;
Management of the Treasury function;
Draft year-end financial statements and reports and liaise with the entity’s auditors;
Ensure payments to suppliers are facilitated within 30 days of receipt;
Manage the petty cash balance effectively and efficiently; and
Review and audit the logbook for accuracy and completeness.
Qualifications and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting;
At least 2-3 years’ experience in a similar accounting position;
Must have knowledge of accounting principles and practices in a public sector (GRAP);
Must have experience in dealing with internal and external auditors;
Be computer literate in Microsoft Office suite (Advance Excel and Word);
Advanced experience with Sage 300, Assetware and Caseware.
