Job Description:

As our Supervisor Housing Maintenance (FTE) of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Lead and promote a safety-first culture with zero tolerance for unsafe behaviour.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental standards and procedures.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, safety checks, and task observations.
  • Identify, report, and address risks and safety deviations.
  • Ensure team members are fit for duty and trained for assigned tasks.
  • Performance Delivery
  • Housing Maintenance Delivery
  • Supervise the maintenance and upkeep of all Kumba-owned housing units, facilities, and associated infrastructure to ensure they remain safe, habitable, and compliant with standards.
  • Ensure effective maintenance of building structures and services, including but not limited to:
  • Electrical systems
  • Plumbing and water reticulation
  • Sewerage and drainage systems
  • Roofing, doors, windows, and finishes
  • General civil works and minor structural repairs
  • Oversee planned, preventive, and reactive maintenance activities in line with approved housing maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Ensure statutory and safety-critical maintenance activities are identified, prioritised, and executed timeously.
  • Verify that all maintenance work meets required technical standards, quality specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Planning, Scheduling, and Execution
  • Translate weekly and monthly housing maintenance plans into daily work allocations.
  • Coordinate artisans, maintenance teams, and contractors to ensure efficient task execution across the housing portfolio.
  • Monitor maintenance progress against plans and address deviations.
  • Ensure all work orders are correctly raised, executed, closed, and recorded in the relevant maintenance management systems.
  • Technical Oversight and Quality Control
  • Inspect completed maintenance work to confirm technical correctness and workmanship quality.
  • Identify repeat failures, defects, or deteriorating housing assets and initiate corrective actions.
  • Support basic root cause analysis on recurring housing maintenance issues.
  • Provide on-the-job technical guidance to artisans and maintenance staff within the scope of supervisory responsibility.
  • Stakeholder and Municipal Engagement
  • Liaise with local municipal authorities and service providers on housing-related operational matters, including water, sanitation, electricity, and infrastructure services.
  • Coordinate municipal inspections, service connections, repairs, and reinstatement activities affecting Kumba housing assets.
  • Identify and escalate municipal service risks, non-compliance issues, or service interruptions impacting housing maintenance and habitability.
  • Support compliance with municipal by-laws, permits, and service requirements through accurate reporting and follow-up.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with municipal representatives to support reliable housing service delivery.
  • Asset Care, Compliance, and Reporting
  • Ensure housing assets are maintained in accordance with company policies, legal requirements, and municipal regulations.
  • Support asset integrity by identifying emerging risks and deterioration trends within the housing portfolio.
  • Compile and submit accurate maintenance reports, defect trends, and compliance information as required.

 

This role is in People & Organisation (P&O) NC on a band 7.8 (C4) level reporting to Housing Engineer

 

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12/N3 Technical
  • N5 Qualification (Engineering/Civil Maintenance) or equivalent
  • Trade Test (Engineering discipline)
  • A2 Safety Training Certificate
  • SA Drivers Licence

 

Technical Knowledge

  • Minimum 5 years’ operational maintenance experience (housing or infrastructure preferred).
  • Working knowledge of housing maintenance practices, standards, and safety requirements.
  • Understanding of building services relevant to housing (electrical, plumbing, water, sewerage, and general building maintenance).
  • Knowledge of maintenance planning, work order control, and basic asset care principles.
  • Awareness of statutory, municipal, and company compliance requirements affecting housing assets.
  • Basic understanding of cost control, materials usage, and contractor supervision

SENIOR ROCK ENGINEER

Job description

Northam Eland Platinum Mine has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Rock Engineer who will oversee and perform design layouts and support systems for our Eland Operations. The successful incumbent will ensure proper Rock Engineering input into the design and support while delivering the service requirements related to the Operational strata control process. Guided by our purpose and our values, we enable both high performance and purposeful action as we aim to promote “Smart Platinum Mining", delivering on metals (PGMs) including platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium and osmium.

Qualifications

· B.Sc. / B.Tech Geology/ Mining Degree / relevant qualification

· Certificate in Rock Mechanics / Minerals Council Certificate in Rock Mechanics (metalliferous)

 

Experience

Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Rock Engineering of which two (2) years’ must be in a management role:

 

Key performance areas

As our Senior Rock Engineer some of your responsibilities will include but not limited to: 

· Analysis of the geological structure of the ore body to determine the properties of the rock mass for mine planning

· Identification of mining methods and sequencing for extracting the ore body

· Evaluation of potential ground movement and associated stress an strain as a result of mining operations

· Design suitable support methods and material for underground excavations

· Conduct mine support structure simulations, thereby assisting with layouts of mine plans

· Keep abreast and make use of the latest development in strata control for mine designs

· Conduct risk analysis for the mine

· Review and update the mine and structural layout plans

· Input into life of mine planning

· Analyse and interpret rock engineering data and information to identify changes in the production environment, defects and safety risks, while conducting regular inspections and ensure problems are addressed proactively and aligned with Rock Engineering requirements

· Develop quality controls to ensure alignment of operational rock engineering interventions, systems and processes with standardization requirements as well as policies, procedures and operating standards

· Maintain stakeholder relationships, successful teamwork and manage the continuous improvement of the Rock Engineering function

· Provide expert support on ad hoc projects

· Managing the day to day functions and activities of the Rock Engineering Department—providing timeous input into planning, design and operations to Combat Rock Fall and Rock burst accidents

· Provide responsibly for a safe mine and support design

· Fulfil the responsibilities discussed in the mandatory Code of Practice to combat Rock Falls and Rock Burst Accidents

· Provide guidance to training personnel with regards to strata control related risk and hazards in the workplace

· Participate in relevant safety audits, inspections and observations and address issues as part of demonstrating safety leadership
