As our Employee Relations Advisor of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Maintain relations with trade unions to foster labour peace, joint problem-solving, and stability.
  • Promote a high level of competency among supervisors in handling disciplinary cases.
  • Manage diversity between recognised unions fairly and equitably.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with all agreements.
  • Deliver a high-level advisory service to the Mine and maintain the accuracy and integrity of employee relations information.
  • Analyze employee relations data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

  • Participate actively in consultation forums.

Technical Knowledge

  • 3-5 years’ experience in employee relations advisory in a mining environment.
  • Strong understanding of relevant labour laws, collective bargaining processes, and dispute resolution mechanisms within a unionised environment.
  • Knowledge of the principles and tactics involved in union negotiations, including handling grievances and managing labour disputes.
  • Familiarity with company policies, procedures, and frameworks regarding employee relations, including disciplinary codes and conflict resolution protocols.
  • Awareness of health and safety regulations and how these impact employee relations, especially within unionised work environments.
  • Understanding of collective agreements, employment contracts, and employee rights, with the ability to interpret and advise on legal terms and conditions.

Job Description:

As our Miner your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Safety, Health, and Environment

  • Adhere to all health and safety practices and requirements.
  • Maintain good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
  • Active participation in VFLs, relevant Risk Assessments, and closed-out of Safety Actions.

Performance and Delivery

       Floor Stock:

  • Exercise the necessary control over activities so that they do not have adverse effects on the environment and the immediate community, for example, ensuring the right amount of charge to minimise vibrations and the impact of blasting on the community (especially fly-rock).
  • Measure drilled holes (primary and secondary blasting) according to the plan to determine the accurate quantity of explosives and accessories.
  • Obtain the precise amount of blasting accessories from the explosive magazine.
  • Charge blasting holes with the prescribed explosives to ensure the required fragmentation.
  • Inspect the blasting area after the blasting operation for misfires and unsafe conditions and declare it safe for normal operations.
  • Destroy all surplus and damaged explosives after each blasting operation according to the Mine Health & Safety Act.
  • Compile the Blasting report and forward it to the supervisor within the agreed-upon time.
  • Exercising control over explosives.

Controlled team activities:

  • Observe and enforce any codes of practice, instructions, procedures, directives, permissions, exemptions, etc., issued by the mine, the Department of Mineral Resources or any other person authorised.
  • Deliver outputs within the agreed timeframes and add value to the business.
  • Deploy sub-ordinates (direct and indirect) effectively and plan their tasks proactively to ensure smooth production operation.
  • Perform effective and efficient general office administration, such as diary management and order processing, thus contributing to achieving the team's objectives.
  • Create SAP orders and follow-up.
  • Take minutes in sectional meetings.

Clean and environmentally friendly work area:

  • Keep the environment clean.
  • Perform cleaning activities beyond the allocated area.
  • Clean equipment with the appropriate tools.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards.
  • Ensure all blasting activities follow legislation and required processes and procedures.

Assistance:

  • Assist the supervisor and co-workers according to their level/area of competence and follow company policies when instructed or during the responsible person's absence to ensure the achievement of functional objectives.
  • Assist the supervisor actively in continuous improvement projects.

This role is in the Mining (MIN) department on a band P3 level reporting to the Blasting Supervisor / Shift Supervisor.

  • Report any deviations or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Assist with data collection when other team members are absent.
  • Verify, clean, and maintain vibration data loggers to ensure functionality.
  • Identify and address any wrong readings or defective vibration sensors.
  • Download collected vibration data back into the vibration database.
  • Pre-Shift Inspections
  • Perform pre-shift inspections of vehicles, equipment, machines, and components to ensure functionality and safety and prevent injuries and asset damage.
  • Observe and monitor equipment and vehicle performance against standards, reporting any non-conformances or deviations to the supervisor for prompt attention.
  • Assistance
  • Provide proactive support to team members and supervisors, including assisting with data collection, equipment inspections, and addressing any immediate issues during shifts.

 

This role is in Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) department on a band J5 level reporting to the Thermographer

 

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12/ N3 Technical
  • SA Driver’s licence
  • Vibration CAT 1 certificate (Advantageous)

 

Technical Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in vibration collection, preferably in a mining environment.
  • Computer literacy. Experience in Microsoft Office and WORD.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and procedures.
  • Understanding vehicle and equipment components and their functions.
  • Familiarity with manufacturer standards.
  • Awareness of company policies and procedures.
