Occupational Therapist (5 Posts)

Requirements: •Applicants must be in possession of an appropriate three/four year Diploma/Degree qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as an Occupational Therapist • The incumbent must be able to promote inclusive education which includes promoting access to quality public funded education for learners with disability. They should have experience in working as part of a team and collaborating with stakeholders • Experience in co-ordinating education and other support for learners with disabilities will be an added advantage • The incumbent will function as part of the District-Based Support Team(DBST) with the specific responsibility of providing transversal outreach services to special schools that include learners with severe to profound intellectual disability (LSPID) • The job involves travelling and therefore a valid driver's license.
Skills: • The applicant must have advanced computer skills including Ms-Word, Ms-Excel and Ms-Power Point • They should have knowledge and understanding of education legislation and policies • They should able to take initiatives, work under pressure and problem-solving if and when necessary • Facilitation skills • Planning and organising • Project management and advanced communication skills • Knowledge in Health Professions Act, SIAS, White paper 6, Regulate HPCSA and SASA.
Duties: • As a member of the school team, the incumbent will collaborate with team members in the provision of support to the school • Support to be provided will include: Assessment of 1SPID enrolled in the school, provision of relevant therapeutic intervention to learners and families • Monitoring and reporting on these learners' progress, training caregivers on learning programme for LSPID, monitoring and reporting caregivers' implementation of the learning programme for LSPID • Provide training and sharing on therapy matters • Support teachers, on learning programme for LSPID • Manage therapy support materials and equipment • Monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the learning programme in school • Advocating for access to quality public funded education for LSPID and carrying out administrative functions related to the support provided.

Duties: • Assess the learner's level of functioning to identify barriers to learning based on the therapist's scope of practice • Conduct screening for the learners • Administer formal and informal assessment • Analyse and interpret information to make decisions regarding the need for therapeutic intervention • Develop therapy intervention plans based on the assessment findings • Collaborate with, team members in the provision of support to designated schools • They should provide support that include: • Assessment of LSPID enrolled in the schools/care centres • Provision of relevant therapeutic intervention to learners and families • Monitoring and reporting on these learners progress • Training caregivers on learning programme for LSPID • Monitoring and implementation of the learning programme for LSPID •Training and supporting teachers on learning programme for LSPID • Monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the learning programme in designated schools • Carry out administrative functions related to the support provided • The incumbent may also be required to provide support to other learners in the community as and when needed.

Professional Nurse (4 Posts)

Duties: • Provision of health assessment for pupil s with special needs • First Aid and assistance in rehabilitation in special schools • Provide educational support to learners and family members • Plan and carry out evidence based care • Provide administrative nursing support to the school e.g. develop and revise the school health policies • Perform administrative and managerial functions, e.g. Units' staff, budget, planning and long-ranging goals • Develop and implement health plans for pupils with special needs • The incumbent will actively participate as member of School based Support Team • Collaborate with team members in provision of support to special schools • Monitoring and reporting on these learners' progress • Training educators • Monitoring and reporting on implementation of the learning programme for LSPID • Training and supporting teachers on learning programme for LSPID.
