Role summary
The Unit Manager will be responsible for coordinating improved quality nursing care by ensuring compliance to professional and ethical practice.
The incumbent will also be responsible for monitoring and ensuring that nursing care and service delivery is implemented and practiced within a multi-disciplinary quality assurance team. In accordance the incumbent will be accountable for coordinating capacity building, mentoring and training.

 Monitor safety standards in accordance with the Machine and Occupational Safety Act (Act 6 of 1983).
Report all accidents and incidents to Line Manager / Safety Representatives
 Ensure compliance with protocols, policies and Acts
 Ensure that all equipment is in working order and properly maintained
 Control of asset register
 Ensure the unit is providing safe, cost effective quality patient care in line with the Clinical Governance strategy and evidence based practice
 Evaluate the patient’s journey through patient experience and stakeholder input
 Evaluate nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes
 Communicate effectively with patients regarding their care
 Promote health and wellbeing of patients and staff
 Ensure the principles of infection prevention and all standard precautions are adhered to
 Implementing group quality initiatives

Education
 A relevant nursing qualification (Diploma in General Nursing/ B Cur Degree) or equivalent NQF 7 qualification
 Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
 Compliance with the SANC code for a Registered Nurse and all applicable health care legislations
 Post-Basic Qualification in Neonatal ICU.
 Child Nursing Care Qualification would be advantageous.
 A relevant management qualification would be advantageous.
 
Work experience
 An intermediate level of Computer proficiency.
 2 or more years’ experience in a private hospital setting.
 Relevant experience in Neonatal ICU and Paediatric Ward.
 Experience in Clinical Leadership.

ENROLLED NURSE – C WARD

Role summary
The Enrolled Nurse is responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of patients and will function under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse.
The incumbent is held accountable for his/her own acts and omissions.
Nursing activities form part of a nursing regime that is planned and initiated by the Registered Nurse. The Enrolled Nurse will be responsible for the assessment, care and meeting of patient needs and will also be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate programmes of care to ensuring high quality patient care.

CLINICAL NURSE- MEDICAL WARD

Role summary
The Clinical Nurse is a professional who remains responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of individualised and holistic nursing care of a patient, their families or the community, either performed directly or indirectly.
The incumbent ultimately coordinates patient care within the concept of the multi-disciplinary health team.
The incumbent also fulfils the role by the use of scientifically based nursing theories and processes, treating the patients as a physical, social and spiritual individual, and by use of educational and technical means applicable to health care practice.
 
Key work output and accountabilities
 Serve as a clinical resource in assisting personnel to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in the unit.
 Flexible to work Day/Night shift as per operational needs.
 Ensure communication and interaction with family and health professionals regarding optimal patient care, thereby acting as a patient advocate when necessary.
 Ensure communication between nursing management and unit to eliminate patient care problems / issues.
 Assess, plan and implement advanced nursing care in a specialized field in accordance with standard nursing care procedures, as set out in the standards and procedures of MPH, as well as nursing care theory and medical direction.
 Initiate, direct and maintain emergency treatment (RESUS) as indicated to any patient / person in any ward / department of the hospital. To diagnose and treat the emergency patient quickly, effectively and efficiently as possible within the Scope of Practice.
 Interview patient and family to obtain general background information and problem identification; evaluate patient’s behaviour and assess immediate and long term needs.
 Participate as a professional member of the multi-disciplinary team in evaluating, developing and implementing health care plans and treatment regime.
 Do rounds with the physician to review condition of patients; develop nursing care plans; participate in the care of all patients in the unit.

Skills profile
Education

Role summary

Role summary

Role summary

Role summary

Role summary
 The Registered Nurse is responsible firstly to the unit manager and in his/her absence to the Registered Nurse delegated to take over these duties, ultimately the Registered Nurse is responsible to the Nursing Services Manager.
 As an integral member of the nursing team he/she is expected to work in cooperation with all his/her nursing colleagues.
The Registered Nurse shall work in cooperation with all members of the Multidisciplinary team, Administrative team and the Clinic management.
 
Key work output and accountabilities
Administrative Responsibilities
 The Registered Nurse is responsible for ensuring that the Policy and Procedure file is kept intact and well maintained.
 The Registered Nurse is expected to be familiar with the content of the policy and procedure file and to ensure that implementation of said Policies and procedures are adhered to by themselves and their subordinates.
Meetings
 To attend meetings as delegated by the unit manager, in her absence or as part of the nursing team e.g. Ward rounds, Nurse Management meetings or Administration meetings.
 The Registered Nurse is expected to actively participate in the meeting.
 He/she is responsible for giving feedback to other members of the nursing team in regard to changes in a patient’s treatment, any new decisions that have been taken, or any management changes.
 The Registered Nurse is encouraged to make suggestions and offer contributions in regard to improving nursing care.
 He/she is also encouraged to become involved in problem solving
 
Organisation
 In the absence of the unit manager or as a delegated duty the Registered Nurse will be able to plan systematically, He/she will be able to adapt as circumstances change and will be able to successfully carry a greater workload.
 
Skills profile
Education
 Must be a Qualified Psychiatric Nurse (Registered with SANC)
 The Registered Nurse shall delegate duties in accordance to the knowledge, skills and attitudes of colleagues and subordinates, thus maximizing the utilisation of manpower and improving productivity.
Control
 The ordering of medication for patients shall be done according to policy
 Ward stock (medication) will be kept at a manageable level
 Medical supplies will be kept at a manageable level
 Ensure safe keeping of medicines
 Prevent stock shortages through planned ordering
 Ensure that equipment is used correctly
 Ensure Maintenance of equipment

 Ensure that electric lights and heaters are turned off when not in use

 Doing the psychiatric nursing evaluation and comprehensively completing the documentation

 Giving pre and post care to the patient receiving ECT
