Job purpose:
Performing duties associated with the electrical installation, construction, maintenance and repair of distribution substation equipment, including inspecting for load and fault reporting, overhauling/testing distribution transformers and auto re-closers, attending to routine administrative recording requirements and monitoring and correcting subordinate personnel in terms of productivity and work performance.
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.

Qualifications and experience required:
- Qualified Electrician.
- Crane Operator’s Certificate.
- One year’s relevant experience.
- A valid Code C driver’s licence including PDP.
Key attributes and competencies:
- Must be physically fit and healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot – is required to carry, lift or push material and equipment weighing over 20kg. It is also required to climb a ladder and to work in confined spaces.
- Must be able to cope with working under environmental conditions that are physical stressful such as varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Must be able to cope with mental stress arising from potential or actual physical threat as work is performed in close proximity to live electrical equipment.

Qualifications and experience required:
- Qualified Electrician.
- One year’s relevant experience.
- A valid Code C1 driver’s licence with PDP.
Key attributes and competencies:
- Must be physically fit and healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot – is required to climb a ladder, work in confined spaces and at elevated distances and to lift and carry lightweight equipment.
- Must be able to cope with working under environmental conditions that are physically stressful such as varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Ability to meet occasional unforeseen deadlines and to work under pressure during cable faults which need to be restored within limited time. Must work overtime and render standby duties.
- Sight, speech and hearing ability (test for colour blindness is required).
- Supervisory and report-writing skills.
- Administrative skills.

To supervise maintenance, installation and repair of electrical infrastructure (street lighting and overheads).

DEPUTY DIRECTOR: TRANSMISSION MAINTENANCE
(DISTRIBUTION: MANAGEMENT)

TASK Grade 15 (R666 732 – R927 012 per annum)

Qualifications and experience required:
- B.Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Seven years’ relevant experience.
Special conditions attached to the post:
- A valid Code 13 driver’s licence.
- Government Certificate of Competence.
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel).
- Good oral and written communication skills in English and at least one other local language.
Key attributes and competencies:
- Must be physically fit and healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot – physical efforts are required for handling of a link stick weighing 6 kilograms in elevated position when removing, replacing or closing of drop-out expulsion fuses on overhead distribution networks whilst carrying out switching operations, racking in and out of HV and MV circuits under normal and abnormal conditions and opening and closing of HV and MV overhead isolators.
- Must be able to cope with stress associated with having to make risky decisions when carrying out switching operations, being constantly aware of the danger and hazards of electricity. Stress also occurs where the incumbent is required to find solutions arising from conflict with consumers.
- Must be able to cope with working under environmental conditions that are physically stressful such as varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Ability to meet occasional undetermined deadlines and to work under pressure in emergency situations under fault conditions emanating from restoration of supply to consumers after interruptions, must work overtime and render standby duties.
- Sight, speech, and hearing ability (eye test for colour blindness is required).
- Good oral and written communication skills in English and at least one other local language.

Job purpose
Responsible for managing, supervising, coordinating and controlling the activities of the Transmission Maintenance Division in order to ensure that maintenance is carried out on the High Voltage Distribution network according to safety and procedural standards for the purposes of continuity of electricity supply.
