SAFETY AND SECURITY DIRECTORATE
STATION COMMANDER
(FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES)
POSITION CODE: 200113
TASK Grade 12 (R408 432 – R567 852 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)
Qualifications and experience required:
- At least a tertiary qualification or equivalent Graduate Diploma in Fire Technology / National Higher Certificate in Fire Technology
- Three years’ experience
- Valid Code EC Drivers’ License
- Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
Key attributes and competencies:
- Physically fit and able-bodied and capable of carrying objects in excess of 20 kilograms
- Able to work in all weather conditions
- Supervisory skills
- Exposure to stressful situations that are physically threatening
- Able to make decisions that have significant impact on the organisation and may have grave consequences
- Able to work variable shifts on a twenty-four hour basis
- Able to work standby when required
- Communication and report-writing skills
- Able to work overtime during specific unplanned emergencies/disasters.
Job purpose:
Co-ordinates and controls the activities of personnel assigned to a particular shift for the rendering of emergency and humanitarian services to the community for the saving/protection of life and property.
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, a medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
