SAFETY AND SECURITY DIRECTORATE 
DISASTER MANAGEMENT OFFICER (THREE POSITIONS)
POSITION CODE: 8207
TASK Grade 10 (R322 284 – R448 056 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)
In compliance with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Employment Equity Plan, preference will be given to suitably qualified African female applicants.
 
 
Qualifications and experience required:
  • Tertiary qualification.
  • 3 Years’ experience in a Disaster Management environment or similar.
  • A valid Code B driver’s licence
  • Computer literacy.
 
The incumbent will be expected to be on permanent standby, 365 days per year, and will be required to work in adverse weather, excessive noise and unhygienic conditions. 
 
Key attributes and competencies:
  • The ability to work under extreme stressful situations and exposure to social trauma.
  • Physically fit and able bodied, and must be able to lift objects weighing more than 20kg.
  • Sound communication and administrative skills.
  • Mentoring and training skills essential.
 

Job purpose:
To reduce and control the effects of and/or possible disaster / life threatening situations in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality.
 
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, a medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
