ELECTRICITY & ENERGY DIRECTORATE
ARTISAN: ELECTRICAL
(DISTRIBUTION: UITENHAGE)
POSITION CODE: 250698
TASK Grade 10 (R410 784 - R571 104 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)
Qualification and experience required:
- Qualified Electrician.
- One year relevant experience.
Key attributes and competencies:
- Must be physically fit and healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot - is required to lift or carry weights or loads between 5 and 20 kg, e.g. equipment, ladders and poles and to climb and work on towers and poles (should be able to work in confined spaces or elevated positions and to withstand acrophobia).
- Must be able to cope with working under environmental conditions that are physically stressful such as excessive noise, bad light, varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Works according to pre-determined deadlines when electricity interruptions must be restored.
- Must work overtime when required and render standby duty on a roster basis.
- Sight, speech and hearing ability (test for colour blindness is required).
Special conditions attached to the position:
- A valid Code C1 driver's licence with PDP.
The physical attributes associated with this post necessitate that the incumbent is physically fit and able-bodied to perform the relevant functions, and as such, shortlisted candidates will be required to submit themselves to the Municipal Medical Doctor to be medically examined as part of the selection process.
Job purpose:
Performing artisan duties associated with the tracing and repair of low- and high-tension faults on overhead lines, the maintenance and construction of overhead electricity lines, including aerial bundled conductor systems, and the supervision of subordinates.
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.

SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT

Qualifications and experience required:
- Trade Test Certificate OR National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Computer literacy: MS Office.
- Five years or more experience in a supervisory technical position required.
Key attributes and competencies:
- Decision-making involving risk is required when performing switching operations and the dangers associated with electricity under fault conditions.
- Must be able to cope with working under environmental conditions that are physically stressful such as poor light, varying temperatures and weather conditions and stress associated with having to deal with conflict, problems, concerns and enquiries from consumers, staff and job-related technical matters.
- Must be physically fit and healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot - operating switchgear requires physical pushing, pulling and carrying of earthing cables, phasing sticks and similar equipment (5 to 20 kg). The incumbent is also required to physically walk/patrol lines over uneven terrain in emergency or fault conditions.
- Sight, speech and hearing ability (eye test for colour blindness is required).
