Qualifications and experience required:
  • An appropriate three-year tertiary career-related qualification (degree or diploma) in one of the Built Environment Professions, i.e. Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Property Management, Architect, Town Planning, Human Settlements qualification and Development Studies.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office applications.
  • A valid Code B or C driver’s licence.

Qualifications and experience required:
  • Grade Twelve (12) qualification.
  • Computer literacy – MS Office applications.
  • One to two years’ relevant experience (i.e. experience in ArcGIS Suite of software; experience in CAD software; ability to draft and capture a town planning layout; experience in spatial data creation and products).
 
Key attributes and competencies:
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and at least one other official local language.

The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Receiving technical documentation and applying specific procedures and system tools to import data from various applications and programmes.
  • Converting data using application tools and procedures, applying instructions to change and format data sets.
  • Checking and validating entries as well as storing data records.
  • Operating and maintaining the Housing and Land Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
  • Identifying and fixing inconsistencies, referring to specific sources of information and/or specifications.
  • Setting and adjusting peripheral devices (scanners, printers and plotters), scanning images or using mapping software (ArcMap), or graphic user interface techniques to create layout drawings.
 
Job purpose:
Performing tasks/activities associated with the preparation, capturing, storing and maintaining of data, presentation of information using database procedures, applications and tools to ensure that the Geographic Information System provides comprehensive and complete information supporting analysis, queries and decision-making processes, and updating Cadastral Drawings and maps using ArcView and ArcMap databases. Training of junior staff.
