SALARY: All-inclusive salary/or stipend package of R 6 500.00

As a pledge towards contributing in skills development, the Department of Transport is inviting applications for a 24 months internship programme. This programme is intended to attract the unemployed graduates to afford them an opportunity to acquire work-based experience across various Land Transport skill areas.
Interns will be placed at various Municipalities identified by provinces or by the Municipalities
Themselves, and it will be one or more intents per province depending on the need for the particularmunicipality and would Therefore be required to use their own accommodation and transport.
The Department of Transport would only pay a monthly stipend of R6 500.00pm.
REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be in possession of a 3-year diploma/degree in any of the fields specified below; and must be at least 18-35 years old:
*Transport Economics
*Transport Planning
*Transport Engineering/Civil Engineering
'Town and Regional Planning and
*Other transport related qualifications.
Note: The following will serve as recommendation: Excellent communication skills, extensive knowledge and experience of the Public Service, high level ability to analyse and synthesise information and to formulate policy and strategy, analytical abilities, excellent liaison skills, sound knowledge of government protocol and processes, sound knowledge of Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Treasury Regulations, and Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF); Public Service Act and Regulations.
DUTIES/ JOB DISCRIPTIONS:
• Assist managers in developing, reviewing, and updating of the integrated transport plans (ITP) as well as ensure its integration with the Integrated Development Plan (IDP). ITP includes among others:
- Transport register (Current Public Transport Records, freight, cars, etc).
- Transport needs assessment
- Public transport plan including infrastructure and facilities
- Non motorized transport (NMT) plan (details are contained in the Minimum Requirement for the
preparation of the ITPs developed by the Department in 2007).
• Assist local municipalities to develop Local Integrated Transport Plans (LITPs) for the local municipalities
within the District if agreed upon by the local municipality. The DITP must incorporate
all the local ITPs of the municipality
• Assist in any transport infrastructure related activities, for example, road construction, road asset management system etc.
• Project management- provide assistance in managing transport related projects emanating from the Municipality, the Province or National Department of Transport
• Assist managers of the municipality/s to manage the appointed service providers in
preparation of the integrated transport plans and other transport related projects.
• Participate in Transport Forums and Provincial transport coordination structures, and other transport related meetings, workshops etc.
• Participate in training programmes as provided through National and Provincial
Departments
• Produce monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports
