CONTRACT POSITION: ANIMAL HEALTH OFFICER (THREE MONTHS CONTRACT)
SALARY: MARKET RELATED
PROVINCES: KWAULU NATAL, EASTERN CAPE AND NORTH WEST (NRMDP)
The NAMC through its National Red Meat Development Program (NRMDP) is currently engaged in a Livestock Market Facilitation intervention. The NRMDP focuses primarily on connecting farmers to formal markets and systemizing the informal markets.
The program has three main thrusts:
• A programme to enable farmers to understand the structure, operation and requirements of formal red meat markets
• Initiatives to develop marketing channels that will increase participation in formal red meat markets
• Training and practical assistance to align the age, health and breeding of animals more closely to market demand.
REQUIREMENTS
An appropriate 3 years Degree/ National Diploma in Animal Production or Animal Health.
RESONSIBILITIES
The Animal Health Officer will assist the Programme Manager with the day to day operational programs relating to:
• Custom Feeding Program (CFP)
• Livestock Auctions,
• Direct sales (formal and informal)
• Pre-slaughter agreement program (PAP)
• Farmer engagement programs
SKILLS AND COMPETENCE
• Special interest to work with animals;
• Computer literacy;
• Ability to work independently, under pressure and meet strict deadlines;
• Good interpersonal and communications skills;
• Willingness to travel and work in remote field locations;
