Mtubatuba Municipality, the hub of UMkhanyakude District, situated adjacent to the Great St. Lucia Wetlands Park and World Heritage Site, invites suitably qualified, committed and highly motivated candidates to apply for the following strategic position: -
 
POST: FIREFIGHTER TEAM LEADER x2
TASK GRADE: 07 OF CATEGORY 1 MUNICIPALITY
DEPARTMENT: COMMUNITY SERVICES

 
Minimum Requirements: -
• Grade 12;
• Firefighter I & II
• Relevant Tertiary qualification will be an added advantage
• Three to Five years' experience as a Firefighter
• Hazmat awareness & operations
• First Aid level 3
A valid driver's licence code C1
• Basic computer skills
• Demonstrating supervision and Report Writing skills
• Effective Communication Skills in both IsiZulu and English with good presentation skills
 
The Successful candidate will report to the Manager: Disaster Management, and will be responsible and accountable for:
• Preform operational tasks under limited supervision
• Manage resources
• Assist with staff supervision and development
• Responding immediately and safety to emergency call and request for assistance
• Leading and giving directions in emergency incidents including fires, roads accidents, floods, spillages of dangerous substances
• Minimizing distress and suffering, including giving first aid before arrival of the ambulance crew, and safeguarding their own and other people's personal safety at all times
• Responding quickly to unforeseen circumstances as the need arise
• Cleaning up and checking the site after clearing the accident/incident
• Familiarize oneself with local streets, roads and buildings around their own and nearby fire station in order to respond to emergency call with the utmost speed and efficiency
• Testing of fire hydrants and checking emergency water supplies
• Undertaking drills and physical training, taking part in training on techniques, use of equipment and related matter, maintaining the level of physical fitness necessary to carry out all the duties of a firefighter
• Writing of incident reports
• Required to work in all weather conditions and outside normal working hours.
