Mtubatuba Municipality, the hub of UMkhanyakude District, situated adjacent to the Great St. Lucia Wetlands Park and World Heritage Site, invites suitably qualified, committed and highly motivated candidates to apply for the following strategic position: -
 
POST: COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
TASK GRADE: 12 OF CATEGORY 1 MUNICIPALITY
DEPARTMENT: EXECUTIVE

Minimum Requirements: -
• Grade 12.
• An appropriate B Degree or Equivalent experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of Public Communications, Public relations and Marketing guidelines.
• Valid Code B Drivers' license.
• At least three years relevant experience.
• Broad knowledge of all media platforms.
• Excellent public relations skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the official languages, IsiZulu and English.
• Ability to function in a community environment.
• Ability to function effectively under pressure and be deadline orientated.
• Ability to deal with National and Provincial government departments, other municipalities, stakeholders and staff in an appropriate manner.
• Ability to function independently, as well as within a team.
• Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
 
 
The Successful candidate will report to the Manager: Communications, and will be responsible and accountable for:
• Compiling and distributing Press Releases.
• Responding to Media queries on a day-to-day basis.
• Conceptualizing, maintaining and creating updated content for all communication platforms, including Newsletters, Publications, Website and Social Media.
• Drafting of official speeches and documents, including research, fact checking and editing.
• Assist in raising the Municipality's profile by running external and in-house Media events.
• Developing suitable ways of communicating complex information to all Municipal Stakeholders.
• Communicating the Municipality's vision by developing and implementing short- and long-term Media strategies for specific projects and initiatives.
• Liaising with key departments to develop proactive communications plans to support their business objectives, projects and programmes.
• Evaluating Media coverage and prepare reports for operational purposes, Committee meetings and Council.
• Promoting and attending municipal corporate/community events during and after business hours.
• Proof reading and editing of public documents and publications
• Undertaking Media training for Council, Directors and Senior Management.
• Performing other reasonable administrative duties as requested by the superiors.
