INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR: FEASIBILITY STUDY OF A NEW GAMBLING LICENSE IN KWAZULU-NATAL 
REF: IC/RA –02/2023 
Background:
How and when to apply: The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking to appoint experienced and suitably qualified South African Citizens to provide the services of - Independent Contractor – Feasibility Study of a new gambling License in KwaZulu-Natal. The Independent Contractor is required to assist the Economics and Statistical Services Unit with the feasibility study of the new gambling license in KwaZulu Natal. 
 
Minimum Requirements: Applicants must have a minimum Honours Degree in Economics/Development studies or a related field. A Master’s degree in Economics/ Development Studies is a distinct advantage. Prior experience with feasibility studies is an added advantage. At least 3 years’ experience in an economic or research related environment. Prior experience in dealing with a public sector client. A broad understanding of strategies and initiatives that are aimed at boosting South Africa’s economy, more specifically as they relate to KwaZulu-Natal. Ability to use MS Office SuiteDriver’s license. 
 
Core competencies: Socio-economic Research (primary and secondary), Use of MS Office Suite; Report writing, Analysis of findings; Presentation skills; Independence; Attention to detail and thoroughness. A sense of urgency. Probing and initiative. Ability to build capacity within others. 
 
Responsibilities:
Evaluate the feasibility for the province to support a sixth casino license. Determine the projected economic value of tourism arising from a gaming precinct. Determine the projected economic contribution to the provincial revenue from a sixth casino license 
 
Terms of Appointment:
The Independent Contractor will sign a 4-month contract remunerated at R384 per hour.

BACKGROUND
The Moses Kotane Institute is looking to appoint a suitably qualified South African unemployed youth interested in gaining experience within the economics and statistical services field.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 
Applicants must have a Postgraduate Diploma or Honours Degree (NQF8) qualification in Maritime or related studies. Higher qualifications will be an advantage. At least 2 years’ experience in academic research (research studies), data collection and analysis work with a strong focus on Maritime related sectors. Publication history will be an advantage. A valid driver’s license will be an added advantage.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES 
Conduct research, literature drafting and reviews. Drafting of research concepts and proposals. Data collection and analysis. Research report writing. Project management support.
 
CORE COMPETENCIES 
Proficiency in any data analytical tool or statistical software package.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organisational skills and attention to details. Analysis and problem-solving skills. Ability to work individually and in a team environment.
 
 
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT 
The successful candidate will be offered a twelve-month fixed term contract, remunerated at R13 000.00 – R 16 000.00 (TCOE)

EDITORIAL BOARD MEMBERS FOR MOSES KOTANE 
(REF -MKI/EBM-03/2022) 
 
BACKGROUND The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking to secure the services of experienced and suitably qualified South African Citizen to assist with extensively reviewing and deciding whether to accept decline manuscripts submitted for peer review as Editorial Board Members. The editorial board members will ensure that all MKIJ published research/articles are of international standard. 
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Should be a holder of Masters or PhD degree from are recognized university (Ph.D. degree will be an advantage). At least 3 publications in reputed journals. At least five years’ overall experience in research-writing, editing or publishing programs. Demonstrated experience in editing research or publication with references from traceable institutions. Has worked in a higher learning environment or published research. International experience will be an added advantage. 
 
CORE COMPETENCIES 
Competent PC user and can work remotely with minimal supervision. Dynamic and highly committed to working in a fast-paced environment. Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to follow set deadlines. Good verbal and writing skills. Good time and project management skills, and willing to work long hours. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure the rigorous standards of the scientific process by taking part in the peer-review system. Fact-check submitted articles to ensure that technical or specialized information is presented accurately and verify that the sources used are appropriateUphold the integrity of the journal by identifying invalid research, and helping to maintain the quality of the journal. Ensure content appropriateness to ensure that it is free from sexist, racial and ethnical inappropriateness. Fulfil a sense of obligation to the community and their own area of research. Establish relationships with reputable colleagues and their affiliated journals, and increase their opportunities to join an Editorial Board. 
 
 
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT 
The successful candidate will be offered an independent contract (up to 12 months) on a flat rate of R7500 per paper reviewed.
