DEPARTMENT: TECHNICAL SERVICES 
DIVISION: ELECTRICAL SERVICES 
ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN
Ref: ET/27/20 
 
 
MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS
 Grade 12 
 N6 Certificate / National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Relevant equivalent qualification 
 3-5 years’ relevant experience 
 A Valid Driver’s License 
 Trade test Certificate 
 
OTHER REQUIREMENTS 
 Good Communication Skills (Written and Verbal) 
 Must be good eye sighted 
 Be physical fit 
 Be able to work in outside in all weather conditions 
 Be able to Anylise drawings 
 Good understanding of protection relays 
 Be able to function independently 
 Good supervision skills 
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 Service medium voltage breaker 
 Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous 
 Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components using test equipment’s 
 Test oils in circuit breakers and transformers for dielectric strength 
 Ensure that protection functions as expected 
 Conduct weekly inspections of substations 
 Anylise faults and ensure that are well resolved 
 Ensure that oil samples are taken on a yearly basis and purify those that should be purified 
 Programme and install ripple relay 
 Programme / install street lights relay 
 Programme / install load 
 Anylise controls report and adjust where necessary 
 Update the live ring (cable) 
 Ensure that all sub-stations have updated drawing 
 Conduct T3 repair and Mini-sub Service. 
 Complete required documentation of repairs and service information. 
 
Remuneration: Level 4 (R388 058 pa excluding benefits)
