Introduction
Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for an Artisan: Comminution position within the Mineral Processing Division (MPD). The candidate is required to perform tasks related to executing plant building and equipment maintenance activities within MPD. This includes being responsible for building and maintenance of pilot plants, laboratory equipment and MPD assets in accordance with specified designs, engineering drawings, plant layouts, flow sheets, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Job description
Key Performance Indicators:
- Plan and execute planned maintenance schedule on various MPD plants and equipment, making sure to effectively interpret conditions of plants and equipment and determine causes thereof as well as check and ensure quality of maintenance work in MPD equipment.
- Maintain a sign-in and sign-out for MPD equipment.
- Assist with Works Orders and do follow ups.
- Compile reports on the status of inspected equipment and submit the report with recommendations to the Head of the group.
- Ensure registration of assets in equipment register and monitor assets movements.
- Help to record and track the movement of assets.
- Look after the MPD assets (Asset numbers & Bar codes) and help identify broken or non-repairable.
- Identify resources required to execute required maintenance.
- Plan execution of recommended maintenance activities.
- Execute planned maintenance as per plan.
- Report back to ead on completed work.
- Execute planned maintenance inspections on various mechanical plants and equipment, making use of mechanical theories to effectively interpret conditions of plant and equipment and determine causes thereof.

- Submit report with recommendations to Supervisor.
- Identify resources required to execute required maintenance.
- Plan execution of recommended maintenance activities.
- Execute planned maintenance as per plan.
- Report back to Supervisor on completed work.
- Respond to breakdown of equipment and plant.
- Assess the extent and cause of failure.
- Identify the best remedial action to be taken, taking into account the impact of downtime and cost of repair.
- Inform Supervisor of the failure/breakdown and request required spares.
- Execute repairs to failed equipment or plant and commission. Ensure high quality of workmanship to prevent recurrence of failure.
- Interpret drawings (PFD’s, P&ID’s and Structural) to assemble plant and equipment as requested by Cis.
- Design manufacture and install water, air, gas and steam reticulation according to relevant quality and safety standards.
- Meeting requirements of CI for pilot plant building.
- Commission pilot plants.
- Meeting deadlines for projects and reliability.
- Ensure when decommissioning of a pilot plant is complete, all equipment is returned to its original state.

- Perform risk assessment before carrying out work.
- Supervise subordinates and ensure they work safely.
- Ensure high quality of work in all maintenance activities.
- Minimise wastage of materials and spares when maintaining equipment or making new fixtures or structures.
- Perform standby duties, responding to calls after hours regarding failed equipment, plant and services
Mentor trainees. - Ensure all SHEQ requirements are adhered to and met.
Minimum requirements
- Trade Certificate
- At least 5 years' experience in the operation and maintenance of relevant minerals processing related unit operations such as flotation, milling, crushing, physical separation and sample preparation.
- At least 5 years on the job training.

Job description
Projects (Without supervision)
With the help of engineering theory and process flow knowledge, the Technician is:
· Responsible for the planning and alignment of designs into business strategies and objectives, and with industry best practices, ensuring effective cost management, adherence to safety regulations and effective client service.
· Prepare scope of work, specifications, bill of quantities and tender documents according to client needs & specifications, and continuous liaising with the client thereon.
· Responsible for continuous improvements in designs ensuring optimal and cost efficient implementation.
· Responsible to coordinate and implement design initiatives upon completion of project scoping, tendering and contract preparation with the client.
· Responsible to compile all information necessary for the manufacturing and software engineering phases of the project (detailed data pack).
· Project costing.
· Participate in tender drafting and evaluation meetings.
· Project bidding participation.
· Budget control measures for projects.
· Contract negotiation skills.
Maintenance (Corrective, Preventative and breakdown)(Without supervision)
· You will be responsible for PLC wiring, PLC programming, PLC input and output tagging, SCADA development and fault finding.
· Performing calibration and installation of various instruments:
- Temperature instruments
- Flow instruments
- Level instruments
- Radiation instruments
· Perform preventative maintenance and repair on process controllers (PLCs, microcontrollers, DCSs, etc.) and instruments
- Maintenance as recommended by manufacturer
- Calibrating the instruments to make sure they work properly
- Software maintenance for all process controllers
· Reassemble instruments and replace instruments in system, using hand tools
· Assist junior technicians and instrument mechanics in technical problem solving
- Applying engineering theory in problem solving
- Applying process flow knowledge in troubleshooting
- Take over problem solving from junior personnel
- Working within stipulated budget
- Allocating resources to tasks cost effectively

Minimum requirements
EDUCATION:
- Minimum: National Diploma or a Higher National Diploma. Electrical / Instrumentation/Mechatronics
EXPERIENCE:
· A minimum of 3 - 5 years post-apprenticeship experience with knowledge of various instruments (temperature, pressure, flow, level, vibration, radiation, etc.) .This should cater for but not limited to these attributes:
