Introduction

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
- Contribute to the innovation outputs (i.e. technologies, prototypes, products, and patents) of the Division.
- Conduct technology and product development for application in water and wastewater treatment. The tasks include (but not limited to) reaction process designing and engineering, scaling-up, techno economic evaluations, prototype designing and validation processes.
- Plan methodology, equipment, material requirements and implement laboratory operations for the purpose of developing products and fabrication procedures that meet cost, product specification, and performance standards.
- Analyse the root cause of a wide variety of failures related to issues arising in product development and validation processes.
- Identify inefficiencies in scale-up of processes, develop and implement process and product improvement measures.
- Review new product plans and make recommendations for material selection based on design objectives.
- Engage with industry and identify needs of clients, assist in identifying opportunities for technology development and commercialization.
- Supervise and co-ordinate the activities of subordinate staff, to ensure that service of a high standard is rendered at full cost recovery. 5
- Provide technical and practical guidance in the execution of experiments.
- Must stay up to date and informed at an expert technical level with technology and business in the areas of the Division’s work.
- Ensure continuous growth and the provision of specialised training of junior staff to ensure that the professional skills are acquired to develop, deliver and support advanced water treatment products and technologies.
- Ensure that SHEQ procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years' experience in research and development of chemical process engineering is a requirement.
- At least 3 years’ experience in materials synthesis, chemical process design and product development.
- Systems thinking approach, design thinking and incorporating sustainability elements in product and process development
- Willingness to study, grow and be an expert in the field.
- Team player who enjoys variation in tasks and has a passion for chemical processing.
- An affinity for planning and conducting new and innovative projects is essential.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess an MSc /M Eng. degree in Chemical engineering.
- PhD will be an advantage.
- Professional registration and voluntary association membership will be an advantage.

Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Debtors Controller. The candidate must facilitate payment of outstanding debt through communication with debtors and by application of correct collection procedures. All suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply.
Job description
Customer account management
- Reviewing the Debtors master data through regular checks of customer information and credit limits.
- Approve creation of new customers and load new/approved customers on IFS with appropriate fields and linking to other IFS modules.
- Maintain credit limits per customer and reduce credit limits where customer has defaulted on payment terms.
- Perform regular credit limit review considering:
o Payment history
o Changes in customer’s legal status
- Perform regular review of customer base to ensure only approved debtors are maintained on the system. Block/delete inactive customer accounts.
- Control over Credit Applications:
o Obtain necessary credit references and/or assess credibility of potential debtor via a credit risk management service provider,
o Obtain financial statements of applicants where required;
o Assess credit application based on customer knowledge and research performed.
o Advise manager of possible risks, if applicable.
o Ensure all documentation is processed within the parameters of approved Mintek Credit Control Policy and
o Ensure necessary credit limit approval obtained in accordance therewith
- Review allocation of payments from customers and ensure that receipts are processed to the correct customer account.
- Follow-up on a regular basis on unallocated receipts and ensure that the necessary communication with the bank with regards to unidentified deposits is been done by the responsible person.
- Attend to queries on all Mintek client debtors’ accounts.
- Keep abreast with economic changes specifically abroad to avoid providing credit to possible bad debts.
Debt collection
- Supervise on a daily basis the activities of the clerical staff in the Debtors Department.
- Ensure that all transactions input into the system by the debtors clerks is checked prior to the posting thereof, including ensuring the validity of the transaction and agreement with client documentation available (orders, etc).
- Facilitate payment of outstanding debt through communication with debtors and by application of correct collection procedures;
- Communicate with outstanding debtors' relevant departments to assess reasons for non-payment and
- Ensure the forwarding of any copy documentation to facilitate collection of any outstanding amounts
- Control the preparation of letters of request for payment and final demands, and communication with relevant staff for all debts to be handed over to debt collection agency for collection.
- Control the preparation of requests for the reversal of invoices and/or interest charged to debtors’ accounts where necessary, in accordance with the Delegation of Authority.
- Control the administration of cases handed over to debt collection agency for collection by ensuring the compilation of a monthly management report on the status of debts handed over for collection, reviewing same, and discussing with supervisor.
- Where necessary liaise with attorneys in a pro-active manner.
- Review credit insurance invoices monthly for accuracy taking into account rates charged and outstanding amounts and recommend for approval.
Month-end activities
- Review of age analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness. Investigate long outstanding debt and action through communication with the customer.
- Ensure all payments, invoices and credit notes have been processed before month-end closure.
- Ensure the discussion of debtors outstanding above 60 days on a monthly basis by convening a discussion meeting with affected parties.
Reporting
- To provide Mintek management with information regarding outstanding debtors status through proper analysis and record-keeping.
- Compilation and distribution of monthly debtors report analysing outstanding debt, comparison to previous months, highlighting problematic debtors and raising issues pertaining to debtor management.
- Ensure the compilation of Mintek’s potential doubtful debtors as well as potential bad debts to written-off on an annual basis for inclusion in the annual financial statements based on review of age analysis and knowledge of customers.
- Prepare listing of debtors outstanding longer than 60 days indicating follow up actions taken to meet monthly reporting and information requirements of management.
- Prepare control schedules for master data changes, credit limit overruns, and unpaid debtors in past 30 days, for immediate supervisor to ensure control over debtors and application of efforts in past 30 days, for immediate supervisor to ensure control over debtors and application of efforts in the correct areas.
- Compile report of credit limit review and suggest preferred actions to be taken against customers.
- Prepare monthly declaration of foreign debt for submission to credit insurance company.
- Prepare and submit quarterly debtors’ book for analysis at credit risk management service provider.
Compliance
- Review and amend the credit control processes and procedures to ensure that they are updated with latest best practice and credit control trends in the industry.
- To ensure that the Credit Control system is administered in accordance with approved Mintek policy.
- Control all correspondence sent to debtors regarding demands for payment, arrear interest due, etcetera.
- Control over accuracy and timeous completion of control and suspense account reconciliations
- Maintain statistics in accordance with management requirements
- Maintain procedural and system training documentation relevant to the debtor activity, and ensure debtor staff retains an adequate level of training.
- Supervision of debtors clerk’s on a daily basis ensuring office administration is kept up to date, assessment of training requirements of debtors clerk.
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor's degree in finance/Accounting discipline
- Ideal: Certificate in Credit control
- Min: 3-5 years in debt management environment.
- 1-2 years as a Senior Debtors Controller.
