Introduction
The main objective of the position is to develop fuel cell MEAs for high volume production. The incumbent will form part of a team developing fuel cell MEAs which will lead to product development and manufacturing activities at Mintek. Experience in fuel cell &/electrolyser catalyst and MEA is required. Knowledge of electrochemistry, electrochemical processes technology, precious metals heterogeneous catalysis, or electro/catalyst preparation will be an advantage.
 
Job description
  • Contribute as part of a team to the develop methods for MEA preparation through roll-to-roll coating
  • Undertake research to develop new ink formulations for high volume MEA production
  • Conduct MEA and stack performance testing;
  • Undertake pilot production of certain MEA and fuel cell &/electrolyser catalysts products
  • Ensure that projects are executed on time and within budget;
  • Ensure that SHEQ procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency;
  • Actively participate in the training, guidance and motivation of junior staff. Participate in team debates and technical decisions;
  • Produce professional reports, papers and presentations at local and international conferences;
  • Identify opportunities for technology development and commercialisation; and,
  • Keep up-to-date at a professional level with technology and business developments that are relevant to the division’s interests.

Minimum requirements
  • Minimum: MSc/MEng. (Chemistry or Chemical engineering)
  • Minimum 2-3years’ experience in knowledge and understanding of PEMFC &/PEMWE electrocatalyst and MEA development, preparation, fabrication, characterisation and testing methodologies
  • Must be computer literate
  • Be able to work in a team
  • Excellent communication, presentation and organisational skills
  • Attention to detail, ability to follow up and take initiative

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

Social Media Visuals:
  • Design eye-catching content (graphics, animations, videos) for MINTEK's social media platforms.
  • Keep current on social media trends to optimize audience engagement.
Presentation Design:
  • Create visually engaging presentations for conferences, workshops, and internal meetings.
  • Translate complex data into clear and accessible visuals.
Publication Design:
  • Design layouts for brochures, reports, infographics, and other publications.
  • Follow MINTEK's brand guidelines for consistency.
Corporate Publications:
  • Contribute to the creation of annual reports, marketing materials, and other key publications.
  • Maintain and organize design assets for efficient workflow.
Web and Mobile Design:
  • Design user interfaces (UI) and user experiences (UX) for websites and mobile apps.
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
  • Ensure designs are responsive across devices.
Design Research:
  • Research design trends, competitor activities, and target audience preferences.
  • Stay updated on new technologies and design tools.
 
Minimum requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic design or relevant field
  • Present a portfolio of your own original work
  • At least 1 - 2 years’ experience in related field
  • Ideal: exposure in working within a marketing/advertising agency environment
  • Basic web design ability (HTML5, CSS3) – programme of choice: Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 and 
    WordPress
  • Ability to work on PC or MAC operating system
  • Ability to create original design work for a number of various projects
  • Advanced use of all design related programs in Apple MAC i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, In design
  • Good understanding of Microsoft office software Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc

The incumbent will be responsible for handling and preparation of bulk materials, commissioning, maintenance, and operation of lab and pilot plant equipment in the Biometallurgy Discipline.
 
Job description
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Responsible for receipt, sorting, and labelling of samples or materials for preparation.
  • Ensuring proper storage of samples before and after preparation to prevent contamination or degradation.
  • Assembling and operation of various equipment involved in preparation of materials and leach plant according to specifications.
  • Preparation of  samples in accordance with standardized procedures or specific protocols for laboratory analysis (crushing, blending, splitting and screening)
  • Weighing, recording of samples names and masses and ability to perform basic laboratory techniques.
  • Practice good housekeeping and working procedures at all times.
  • Ensure that equipment is used correctly and responsibly to avoid or minimize damage thereof.
  • Be able to maintain plant equipment with minimum supervision.
  • Conformance to all SHEQ standards and policies of the workplace.
