RESEARCH DELIVERY SPECIALIST: OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH REF: RDS/07/2023
The incumbent will report to: Centre of Excellence Manager
Purpose:
To manage the research delivery process through effective research service provider management, engagement with industry experts to ensure high quality research outcomes as it pertains to Occupational Health.
Minimum requirements:
- Master’s degree in occupational health related field (e.g. Epidemiology, MPH, MMED) or a DOH in Occupational Health.
- 2 years of experience in the mining industry
- 2 years of project management experience
- 3 years of research experience
- 4 years post graduate work experience
- Postgraduate qualification in Project Management is an added advantage.
Key performance areas:
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
- Manage the reconciliation of a contract and exit based on predefined contract criterion.
- Conducts post contract analysis to identify contract value and benefit.
- Effective Management of PRP through Service level agreements, project charters, MOU etc.
- Enforce the necessary contractual arrangements and intellectual property implications in line with Committee decisions for each project.
- Regularly assess the Annual approved research projects are, focusing on:
- Technical content
- Contractual compliance
- Financial controls
- Interact monthly with researchers to ensure that project outputs answer the research questions.
- Take corrective actions and make modifications to the research projects and negotiate where necessary.
- Assess final project reports for impact, results, research methodology, data integrity, conformance of deliverables, correct interpretation of results, relevance of conclusions and recommendations.
- Manage multiple projects and multi-disciplinary teams. This includes resource allocation, issue management, budget allocation and management, tracking and progress management, inter-project influence management, programme reporting and project /programme close-out.
- Annually solicit relevant research proposals in line with the identified Health and Safety needs of the Mining Industry.
- Evaluate research proposals for costs, relevance, impact, proposed outputs, team capability and costs, IP, research outcomes and ethical clearance.
- Finalise project proposals with the involvement of designated mine champions, expert advisors and advise auditors.
- Prepare the Annual Programme for consideration by the relevant Committee and the Council.
- Develop the Research Delivery Programme budget inputs.
- Manage expenditure in line with the approved budget.
- Monitor and report on expenditure against the budget.
- Produce and manage budgets for Research Delivery projects.
- Develop work and action plans aligned to project or operational requirements.
- Monitor and continuously report progress against plan.
- Personal development plans are monitored and achieved.
- Produce one journal paper per year e.g. SAIMM.
- Publish one local conference paper per year.
- Attendance of two local conferences (over and above point 2 above).
- Publish one paper international conference paper every three years.

To oversee the Culture Transformation Advisory Committee (CTAC) and Women in Mining Advisory Committee (WIMAC) to efficiently manage its programmes to implement the Culture Transformation Framework and Women in Mining Initiatives in order to advise council on standards, policies, procedures and health/safety trends.

Key performance areas:
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
- Ongoing communication and interaction with stakeholders in order to identify occupational health and safety needs.
- Identification of target group (stakeholders, end-users and relevant authorities) that would benefit by the outcomes of the CTAC and WIMAC programmes developed.
- Development of annual Programme for implementation plan after each biennial summit (Summit Action Plan).
- Coordinate activities related to Summit outcomes through advisory committees.
- Develop a programme to raise awareness on Summit Action Plan in collaboration with Dissemination unit of the MHSC Centre of Excellence.
- A project file per project is created for the life of the project.
- Content of the project file to be as per project management standards.
- Develop a plan for hosting the MHSC summit.
- Coordinate engagements with stakeholders during summit preparations
- Collect data on summit milestones and produce a report.
- Assist in ensuring that the programme for the summit is developed.
- Assist in coordinating the Principals engagements in preparation for the summit.
- Analyse Summit data and provide direction for the Summit on whether targets are to be reviewed or maintained.
- Develop a programme for implementation.
- Coordinate activities to support the Culture Transformation Framework (CTF) through relevant advisory committees.
- Engage stakeholders to ensure implementation of their respective activities in line with CTF.
- Regularly review progress on implementation of CTF and report to Council.
- Provide corrective actions where needed.
- Give inputs to Centre of Excellence if research is necessary and monitor progress.
- Annual executive summary is provided from CTAC programmes through the submission of: Figures and overviews of the projects managed are prepared for collation.
- Provision of information to assist in the formulation of short and long-term plans for the MHSC.
- Input to the Strategy plan is appropriate.
- Networking with local and overseas institutions.
- Awareness of global health and safety trends directions, new developments, products and equipment that may improve health and safety conditions at mines.
- Scheduled interaction with stakeholders in preparation for future health and safety needs analysis.
- Develop calendar of interactions.
- Attendance of conferences and seminars.
- All steps in the process are covered and thought through in terms of possible implications to other areas.
- Work and action plans fit in with given project or operational requirements.

The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Job Purpose
To Manage the Inspection of the buildings. Manage and control the service and maintenance of contractors. Manage and control of tenant installations and execution of building relevant activities as predetermined by the Manager and Assets Management. Provide, Maintain and develop a number of different services such as Assets strategy, Office Space management, infrastructure, building maintenance, Testing and inspections, Building administration, Contract management, management of health and safety infrastructure , Security infrastructure , Business continuity planning, Managing renovations and refurbishments. Protect and preserve the critical assets of the organization, Ensure the timely update and maintenance of the asset register, Ensure effective Asset monitoring, planning & control and Ensure adherence to the Asset Management SOP.
The position reports to the Finance Manager.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric
- Degree specializing in Facilities or/and Property Management.
- Post-grad in Facilities Management/Property Management or Business Management will be advantageous.
- 2 to 3 years in Facilities Management
- Knowledgeable on PFMA, OHSA and relevant acts including safety, fire and emergency procedures.
- Knowledgeable on technology of the building, space planning and project management.
- Computer Literate
- Driver License
