MINE HEALTH AND SAFETY COUNCIL (MHSC)
 


The Council seeks to make the following appointment.
 
GOVERNANCE, COMPLIANCE AND RISK OFFICER (PERMANENT). REF: GCRO/02/2024
REWARD LEVEL 15 REMUNERATION PACKAGE: R904 968, 15 (NEGOTIABLE)
The incumbent will report to: Legal, Risk and Compliance Manager
 
Purpose:
To manage Corporate Governance and Risk Management to safeguard an organization, its reputation, assets and the interests of stakeholders by identifying and managing all threats to the achievement of its business objectives.
 
Minimum requirements:
  • Relevant degree – Accounting/Auditing background
  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience in Governance/Risk and/or Auditing.
 
Key performance areas:
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
Provision of advice to the Council in respect of corporate governance, ethics, legal and compliance issues.
  • Design and implement an overall risk management process for the organization.
  • Manage the process of identifying and assessing the risks affecting the business.
  • Oversee, and in some areas implement, the plan of risk control actions (e.g. health and safety measures ETC).
  • Monitor, evaluate and challenge the organisation’s success in managing its risks.
  • Organise appropriate risk reporting, internally and externally.
  • Establish the Risk Committee.
  • Clearly define roles and responsibilities Risk Committee (Terms of reference).
  • Provide secretarial managerial support to the Risk Committee.
  • Ensure continuous development and improvement of Corporate Governance systems,
  • Ensure the effective implementation of Critical Financial Reporting Controls by acting as the Internal Control Champion.
  • Manage audit findings by ensuring that findings are addressed timeously and that solutions put in place to address audit findings are sustainable.
  • Compile monthly and quarterly reports for operational meetings and the Audit Sub-committee meeting.
  • Perform Corporate Governance audits and assist with forensic investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with the PFMA.
  • Cultural and demographic transformation in support of strategic objectives is created, nurtured and championed.
  • Deliverables, measures and targets are discussed and agreed with direct reports and aligned to the relevant strategic objectives and measures.
  • Regular meetings are held with direct reports to discuss progress of individual areas of accountability.
  • A climate that encourages excellence and maximises results is fostered.
  • Direct reports are provided with the necessary accountability, resources, authority, information and development to achieve high performance standards.
  • Actual versus required skills and succession plans for areas of accountability are continuously assessed and appropriately actioned.

The Council seeks to make the following appointment.
 
TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER & KNOWLEDGE FACILITATOR REF (PERMANENT): TTKF /02/ 2024.
REWARD LEVEL 15 REMUNERATION PACKAGE: R614 730, 16 (NEGOTIABLE)
The incumbent will report to: Technology Transfer and Commercialisation Specialist
 
PURPOSE
To facilitate the dissemination of MHSC research outcomes to all identified stakeholders. To be the link between MHSC and the Regional Tripartite Forum (RTF). To facilitate the engagement between RTF and MHSC Researchers as a way to promote and disseminate research.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
– Degree/Diploma in Mining Engineering or related field (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical, Occupational Health).
– 5 years’ experience in mining environment.
 
ADDED ADVANTAGES 
Mine Overseer certificate of competency will be an added advantage
Marketing experience is advantageous

KEY PERFOMANCE AREAS
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
– Implement programme for roll out of research outcomes.
– Ongoing communication and interaction with stakeholders
– Host engagement with stakeholders including RTF members
– Ensure that information packs are customised and audience specific
– Constantly assess impact of the information disseminated.
– Implement regional forum framework
– Coordinate Regional meetings
– Provide written reports to MHSC Office
– Consolidate and circulate the RTF meeting schedule for the year to all stakeholders.
– Provide assistance in drafting the RTF Agenda in consultation with the relevant RTF Chairpersons.
– Study the research reports.
– Prepare presentations for approval
– Present the key findings and assess industry uptake on research outcomes
– Write reports on engagement outcomes
– Identify stakeholders, end-users and relevant authorities that would benefit from the research information.
– Document feedback on relevance of the research outcomes to MHSC Research Unit
– Identify platforms which can be used to disseminate the research outcomes e.g. universities, industry events, local and international evets, webinars and seminars etc.
