Job Description
An excellent opportunity exists for an experienced professional to fulfil the role of: GIS Specialist, at our Head Office in Alton, Richards Bay. Reporting to the Programme Manager: Planning and Development, the overall purpose of this position is to provide technical support to the various users who depend on the GIS to meet their organisational responsibilities. This position is available on a three year contract.
Responsibilities
- In conjunction with others, review and maintain design applications and software for the Technical Services Department.
- Manage spatial data from different stakeholders and ensure the best use of the information through the GIS.
- Conduct research to design and update databases and ensure that the information is correct and up to date.
- Stakeholder engagements so as to ensure that GIS information is provided to complete designs and reports under planning.
- Review development plans and design proposals for compliance with adopted engineering standards and good practice.
- Preparation of GIS standards and procedures
- Recording of the Location of all assets in conjunction with the Asset Section
Requirements
- Matric and a minimum of a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in GIS or equivalent, relevant Built environment qualification.
- A minimum of five years’ work related experience within a GIS environment at the appropriate level and preferably, experience in water related infrastructure.
- Registration with SA Geomatics Council, ECSA, SAICE or SACPLAN is an added advantage.
- Reasonable knowledge of ESRI Software, AutoCad /AutoCad Civil 3D and MS Office MS Office, as well as the ability to utilise Civil Designer / Pipemate and Surfmate (TechnoCad) and other related software.
- The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the following competencies that are essential for this position: Continuous improvement and learning; results driven, multi-tasking, planning, organising and control, communication, and applying expertise.
- Good understanding of projections, and spatial data management.
- Ability to work with and support Engineers, Planners and Project
- Code B Driver’s licence and 4X4 driving ability in rough terrain.
