BRIEF BACKGROUND OF METROPOLITAN TRADING COMPANY:
Metropolitan Trading Company (MTC) is an entity owned by the City of Joburg Metropolitan Municipality (the City) tasked with operating Johannesburg Broadband Network (JBN).
The aim of the JBN is to ensure the availability of affordable broadband connectivity throughout the City, which will support socio-economic development through accelerated growth, expanded productivity leading to enhanced quality of life for all. JBN is also aimed to lower the City’s own operating costs whilst increasing access to telecommunications services for residents in the City. This will stimulate economic development in the City, reduce ICT costs and provide available broadband access to the industry.
The primary objectives of MTC are:
To increase the competitiveness of existing businesses within the City.
Increase the usage and penetration of high- speed broadband connectivity.
Facilitate the growth and development of new and existing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) businesses.
Improve the marketability of Joburg as an investment destination.
Increase and accelerate access to the benefits of internet-based communication to achieve digital inclusion.
Reduce the operating costs to the City and improve service delivery.
MTC is currently embarking on a recruitment process for the purposes of capacitating its resources to enable seamless operations.
Educational Requirements and Experience
Appropriate tertiary qualification
Five (5) years’ experience in a similar role
Ability to work under pressure
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Computer literate

Short Detailed Job Description:
Ensure fault report is issued once notified of a fault/problem or change and issue the appropriate document so that the issue can be tracked and closed correctly.
Determine if way-leave approval is required in order to do physical work on public and private land in order to carry out maintenance, provisioning or fault resolution.
Receive or collect the way leave permission to carry out Civils work.
Collect all materials necessary to resolve a customer issue.
Conduct the physical Civils work that is required.
Implement the solution to resolve the customer problem.
Using the quotations received, decide on the service provider who would be best suited to supply materials or carry out the solution is made.
Determine if a way leave approval is required in order to do physical work on public and private land in order to carry out maintenance, provisioning or fault resolution.
Receive the permission to carry out work on public and private property in order to resolve a customer fault/problem.
Carry out physical work necessary to resolve the customer problem. Carry out the trenching or other work necessary to gain access to the area that needs to be looked at.
Manage service providers responsible for digging trenches and laying ducts.
Identify designated staff responsibilities, authority and personal performance measurement criteria.
Determine staff levels and prepare motivations for the filling of vacancies to complement functional objectives and requirements.
Determine human resource requirements taking into consideration operational needs, skills scarcity and retention capability.
