The merSETA is the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Education and Training Authority established through the Skills Development Act. This SETA encompasses the metal and engineering, auto manufacturing, motor retail, tyre manufacturing and plastics industries.

We have an excellent opportunity for the following professional to enhance our Finance Department:
FINANCIAL MANAGER: RISK & REPORTING (D3)
Salary Level (Min. to Mid): R880 151,15 – R1 038 578,36 pa (18 MONTHS FIXED TERM CONTRACT POSITION)
HEAD OFFICE
Purpose: The incumbent will ensure that the management and financial reporting functions of merSETA are effective, accurate and appropriate while ensuring the delivery of financial information on a timely basis to ensure that the finance team achieves its objectives. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing and monitoring the organisation’s risk activities.
Duties:
• Compile Annual Financial Statements in accordance with Generally Recognised Accounting Practice (GRAP)
• Compile a commitment register for operations
• Design and implement an overall risk management process for the organisation, which includes an analysis of the financial impact on the organisation when risks occur
• Prepare risk management report and risk register reports for various committees
• Liaise with Internal Audit on follow ups and clearing of audit findings and collaborate with Quality Management in following up on findings not resolved
• Update the audit log (register of audit findings) after each audit component is completed
• Compile monthly management accounts
• Complete preformatted financial reporting templates to be submitted to National Treasury (NT) and the Department of Higher Educations and Training (DHET)
• Prepare budget templates and check and reconcile budgets submitted by managers
• Consolidate budgets submitted and monitor budget variances monthly
• Notify business units when there is overspend or budget reallocations are required
• Coach all staff in financial processes and procedures
• Assist in drawing up or amending policies and procedures documents
• Approve bank details on the on-line banking and accounting systems and quality check supporting documents
Qualities, experience, knowledge and skills required:
• Bachelor's Degree in Finance/Accounting
• Articles of clerkship
• A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage
• 5 years’ experience in accounting and financial reporting
• Sound knowledge of GRAP (Generally Recognised Accounting Principles) and ability to apply these practically
• Thorough and practical understanding of accounting principles, techniques and standards
• Thorough and practical understanding of risk management, including risk identification and risk mitigation
• Ability to compile Annual Financial Statements, including all notes and disclosures in compliance with accounting standards
