MAINTENANCE OFFICER (SALARY LEVEL 08) 
Salary Range: R 376 413, 00 plus benefits as applicable in the Public Service 
Ref: MO13/05/2024 
 
Minimum Requirements: Grade 12/STD 10/NCV L4/Equivalent plus a relevant trade test with at least three years of post-apprenticeship industrial experience in the relevant field and a valid driver’s license. 
 
Recommendations: Experience in planning, monitoring and implementing weekly, monthly and annual maintenance activities. Maintenance and installation experience on house wiring, welding machines, electrical appliances (fixed and portable), pneumatic and hydraulic equipment and infrastructure. A sound understanding and implementation of the OHS Act and associated documentation. Onsite work and management of domestic, commercial and industrial facilities. Fault finding on all electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Panel wiring, construction and installation. Labour management (skilled artisans, apprentices, assistants and sub -contractors). Ordering and receiving of materials and spares as required. Liaising with builders, and project managers during contract work. Dealing with a wide range of people on all levels of the building/ sub-contracting industry. An individual who can work under pressure, is responsible, committed and who is a critical thinker. Liaise with appropriate supervisor and provide necessary and relevant assistance for the execution of civil and structural maintenance projects 
 
Duties:
  • Conduct Electrical, Hydraulic and Pneumatic maintenance on all Majuba TVET college Campuses 
  • Update Safety files for all sites as per OHS Act 
  • Install and repair Electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical or electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, following Specific codes, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications, using hand tools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment 
  • Maintenance/ Installation of power supplies, wiring and conduit for newly installed machines/equipment 
  • Connecting of power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connecting of cables and wires between machines and equipment, following manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints, using hand tools and test equipment 
  • Diagnoses of malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment, and replacing damaged or broken wires and cables, using hand tools. 
  • Testing of malfunctioning machinery, using test equipment, and discussion of malfunction with other maintenance workers, to diagnose malfunction. 
  • Replacement of faulty electrical components of machines, such as relays, switches, motors, and position sensing devices, using hand tools 
  • Diagnose and repair faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards 
  • Diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic electrical components of machines and equipment 
  • Maintenance and repairs on House wiring, Welding machines, electrical appliances (Fixed and portable) and overhead pendant cranes 
  • Fault finding on all Electrical, Hydraulic or Pneumatic systems 
  • Panel wiring, construction and installation 
  • Labour management including other qualified maintenance personal, apprentices, assistants and subcontractors 
  • Ordering and receiving of materials and spares as required 
  • Log all maintenance jobs and record materials used after job completion 
  • Compile and manage a maintenance Budget. Advice and report to Maintenance Supervisor on possible risk factors related to Electrical division 
  • Responsible for General, Planned and Breakdown Maintenance 
  • Responsible for Maintenance Administration/Stores/Tools and Equipment 
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain buildings, electrical, plumbing, janitorial problems, mechanical etc 
  • Responsible for the upkeep and improvement of the facilities, buildings, and grounds: Painting of buildings and Service of air-conditions 
  • Establish processes and procedures to improve the department 
  • Investigating, overseeing, and agreeing on contacts of providers for services 
  • Supervising multi-disciplinary teams of staff including cleaning, maintenance, and grounds 
  • Ensuring that basic facilities, such as water, are well-managed and maintained 
  • Managing budgets and ensuring cost-effectiveness 
  • Ensuring that facilities meet government regulations and environmental, health, and safety standards 
  • Checks completed work by vendors and contractors (according to agreed standards) 
  • Assist on overseeing building projects, renovations, or refurbishments 
  • Drafting reports and making written recommendations 
  • Responsible to manage and identify hazards and risks in the workplace and implementing appropriate measures 
  • Responsible for dealing with the insurance inspections, insurance claims, and repairs to the building that needs to be carried out 
  • Ensuring compliance as per Insurance requirements

HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER (SALARY LEVEL 5) 
Salary Range: R216 417, 00, 00 plus benefits as applicable in the Public Service 
REFERENCE NO. HSO28/05/24 
NO OF POSTS: 02 
 
Minimum requirements: 
Grade 12/ Matric/ Equivalent together with a National Diploma in Health and Safety management (NQF level 6)/ Equivalent qualification, at least 1- 2 years of relevant experience and a valid driver’s licence. 
 
Recommendations:
  • SAMTRAC Certificate 
  • Computer Literacy 
  • Safety management degree (NQF Level 7) 
  • Working experience in an engineering industry and/ or public institutions environment 
  • Extensive knowledge of the OHS Act 85 of 1993, TVET Colleges Act, COID Act, ISO 45001 
 
Duties:
  • Implement Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Safety System 
  • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Induction of staff, students and contractors 
  • Plan and conduct Internal/external OHSAS audits. 
  • Investigate Incidents and implement appropriate corrective measures 
  • Identification of Hazards and conducting Risk Assessments 
  • Implement and make all aware of policies and procedures to mitigate Risk. 
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with stakeholders regarding OHS 
  • Keep records of inspections, findings, and produce reports to verify improvements 
  • Advise and participate in a range of specialization of: e.g. Fire Regulations, Hazardous Substances, Noise, Safeguarding of Machinery, Occupational Diseases, etc. 
  • Lead in-house training with all staff, including Manages, and Employees on OHS issues, workshops and courses. 
  • Knowledge of medical surveillance. 
  • Being up to date and conversant with new Legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health and safety Legislation and any developments that affect the employer’s Industry
