PRINCIPAL: DEBT OFFICER 
SALARY: MARKET RELATED 
 
KZN Growth Fund is a private equity and private debt Fund based in Durban reporting to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA). The Fund seeks to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified Principal: Debt Officer. 
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the origination, execution and closing of prospective mid-market debt investments to achieve KZN Growth Fund’ developmental targets and investment returns. In addition, he/she must be able to effectively lead and direct junior members of the investment team and also assist management in formulating, planning, developing and implementing the Fund’s investment strategy. 
 
The ideal individual will be responsible for: 
  • Support the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) in crafting and executing the Fund’s business and action plan. 
  • Lead the identification, selection, origination and execution of debt and quasi-debt transactions, including screening of prospective investments, assessing project risks and advising on appropriate risk mitigation actions. 
  • Develop creative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions, assessing and structuring transactions to improve the potential for co-financing and catalyzing of additional sources of capital. 
  • Coordinate with experts/specialists in areas like environmental, social and governance, technical, legal, and risk functions as it relates to project structuring and closing of deals. 
  • Lead and coordinate the preparation and presentation of investment reports to the various decision-making committees of the Fund. 
  • Lead industry and market research to guide the business origination and execution effort, aligned with the Fund’s investment criteria and mandate. 
  • Maintain knowledge of the debt portfolio, including leading preparation of lessons learned from projects and disseminating information to investment teams. 
  • Promoting KZN Growth Fund through developing key relationships in the private sector and development communities. 
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring and support to junior team members. 
  • Draft and maintain good investment policies and procedures. 
 
The following minimum requirements must be met in order to be considered for this position: 
  • B Com Honours, Post Graduate Diploma, CFA, MBA or similar equivalent qualification 
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in lending environment, development finance, management consulting, corporate finance or similar field 
  • Strong credit skills, due diligence, financial modelling & structuring capabilities 
  • Understanding of corporate finance principles

INVESTMENT OFFICER X2 
SALARY: MARKET RELATED 
 
KZN Growth Fund is a private equity and private debt Fund based in Durban reporting to the KwaZulu Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA). The Fund seeks to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified Investment Officer. 
Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing and screening investment opportunities, executing and closing transactions and actively managing portfolio investments. The role requires an individual that is driven by their commitment to contribute to private sector development, broad-based black economic empowerment and improving the lives of people in KwaZulu Natal by executing innovative, developmental, and profitable investments for the KZN Growth Fund. 
 
Key performance areas: 
  • Solicit appropriate investment opportunities and conduct initial screening of projects in terms of the Fund’s investment policies. 
  • Undertake and present full appraisals of debt and equity transactions to the Fund’s various decision-making Committees. 
  • Ensure deal closure by taking responsibility for optimal financial, institutional and legal structuring. 
  • Coordinate with the legal team for the conclusion of transaction agreements. 
  • Provide innovative and flexible financial structures for complex transactions. 
  • Identify opportunities to initiate viable projects, project origination through the facilitation of project preparation, scoping, feasibility studies, and business plans with the intention of closing investment deals. 
  • Perform equity valuations of investee companies. 
  • Identifying the exit opportunity and timing, and assisting in the exit from equity portfolio investments. 
  • Support the Chief Investment Officer and Chief Executive Officer in drafting and presentation of reports, evaluations, plans, etc. related to the business of the KZN Growth Fund. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a broad spectrum of project finance funders and private equity institutions, which should include local and international institutions, commercial banks, development finance institutions, ECAs and multi-lateral agencies. 
  • Undertake continuous research and provide recommendations on significant developments, emerging opportunities and challenges in the areas of responsibility. 
 
The following minimum requirements must be met to be considered for this position: 
  • An Honours Degree in Finance/Banking/Economics/Engineering and related fields 
  • A post-graduate qualification such as CA, CFA or MBA would be a strong advantage 
  • At least 5 years’ experience in project finance and private equity with a proven track record in project origination, appraisal and deal closure or Structured Finance transactions in a financial institution 
  • Proven experience in Financial Modelling, Financial Analysis, Due Diligence Investigations, financial structuring, valuation and risk identification and mitigation 
  • Understanding of project and commercial agreements such as off take agreements, EPC/M contracts, operations and maintenance agreements, shareholder agreements, CTA, inter-creditor and facility agreements

MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT 
SALARY: MARKET RELATED
 
KZN Growth Fund is a private equity and private debt Fund based in Durban reporting to the KwaZulu Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA). The Fund seeks to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified Management Accountant. 
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing Budget preparation, forecasting and management. Ensure appropriate performance management and related reporting. 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
  • Preparation of annual budgets and reporting thereon. 
  • Preparation and monitoring of quarterly budgets for the corporate plan, annual performance plan from different departments. 
  • Monitor JIBAR rates to provide feedback to FM and CFO. 
  • Assist with accounting duties for KGFT subsidiary which performs Private Equity Fund activities, PI Insurance cover for KGFT Capital implementation and Maintenance.
  • Prepare (monthly, quarterly and annual) forecasts including capital allocations. 
  • Assist internal and external auditors with required information through the various avenues in the organisation. 
  • Construct data accumulation systems. 
  • Manage the costs in line with spending strategy and provide the advice to FM and CFO on cost saving measures. 
  • Prepare budgeting reports (for the company and for each department) in line with Treasury Regulations and PFMA. 
  • Analyze and report profit margins against budgets. 
  • Super user in the fund Model system in relation to finance reports. 
  • Prepare (monthly, quarterly and annual) forecasts including capital allocations 
  • Assisting in month-end and year-end closing. 
  • Identify and recommend cost-effective solutions by providing valuable insight from variance analysis. 
  • Assist with accounting duties for KGFT subsidiary which performs Private Equity Fund activities. 
 
The following minimum requirements must be met in order to be considered for this position: 
  • B.Com and relevant Post Graduate qualification in Accounting 
  • SAICA / CIMA affiliation will be an added advantage 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the management accountant and understanding of audit environment 
  • Previous PFMA experience / knowledge

LEGAL & RECOVERIES OFFICER 
SALARY: MARKET RELATED 
 
KZN Growth Fund is a private equity and private debt Fund based in Durban reporting to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA). The Fund seeks to appoint an experienced and suitably Legal & Recoveries Officer. 
Reporting to the General Legal Counsel, the successful candidate will be responsible to manage the activities focused on recoveries from defaulting clients, including liaising with external legal advisers/liquidators and business rescue practitioners Ancillary activities will include providing support to the legal and compliance function in transaction execution and post-transaction monitoring for the KZN Growth Fund. 
 
Key performance areas: 
  • Monitoring external information sources (e.g. credit bureau reports) for indications of potential or actual default. 
  • Drafting legal documentation relating to recoveries. 
  • Formulating appropriate recovery strategies to optimize recoveries relative to time and cost. 
  • Engaging with executives and post investment officers on recovery activities & strategies. 
  • Initiating, considering and finalizing settlement proposals and negotiations. 
  • Instructing panel attorneys to institute legal action against defaulting clients and management of legal process until resolution. 
  • Instructing third party service providers (e.g. auctioneers) and monitor progress. 
  • Rigorous management of costs of external legal advisers, counsel and third party service providers. 
  • Maintaining effective and professional working relationships with attorneys, insolvency practitioners, business rescue practitioners and auctioneers. 
  • Monitoring progress on matters underway in the courts, under business rescue and liquidation. 
  • Provide legal advice and services to the organization in corporate and commercial matters, relating to recovery. 
  • Attend internal and external committee meetings to present any report on an ad hoc basis. 
  • On request attend to due diligence investigations, security assessments and reporting on projects at application phase. 
  • A thorough understanding of the legal and compliance functions for loan transaction and documentation execution and to assist in this regard when required. 
  • Undertake continuous research and provide recommendations on significant developments, emerging opportunities and challenges in the areas of responsibility. 
  • Regular reporting, monthly quarterly and annually. 
 
The following minimum requirements must be met to be considered for this position: 
  • LLB Degree with commercial qualification 
  • Admitted Attorney with at least 3 years post article experience 
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a litigation/recoveries role within a financial institution with a focus on debt recovery from businesses/corporates [not individuals] 
  • At least 3 - 8 years job related corporate and commercial law and banking and finance principles 
  • Understanding of project and commercial agreements such as off take agreements, EPC/M contracts, operations and maintenance agreements, shareholder agreements, CTA, inter-creditor and facility 
  • Ability to communicate at all levels, both internally and externally

CREDIT AND INVESTMENT MONITORING OFFICER

KZN Growth Fund is a private equity and private debt Fund based in Durban reporting to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of KZN Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA). The Fund seeks to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified Credit and Investment Monitoring Officer. 
The appointee will be required to conduct credit assessment and risk appraisals of the organisations investments, perform pre and post investment activities, with respect to credit management functions, in adherence with the credit and equity policies of the organisation. 
 
The ideal individual will be allocated the following responsibilities: 
  • Credit risk and post investment monitoring of the organization’s investments. 
  • Physical monitoring of project progress from financial close, in line with terms of the investment agreements, including portfolio performance and analysis, valuations of investee companies and project management. 
  • Conducting regular client visits. 
  • Compile monthly/quarterly/bi-annual and annual investment review reports and plans for various committees. 
  • Development and implementation of a turnaround plan or strategy for the investee company. 
  • Impairment management. 
  • Credit and post investment policy reviews. 
  • Other credit risk related ad hoc activities. 
 
The following minimum requirements must be met in order to be considered for this position: 
  • B Com Honours (with majors in Accounting or equivalent NQF8) 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project finance / private equity or in a similar finance service environment. 
  • Strong financial analysis
