SALARY : R1 266 714 per annum (Level 13), (an all-inclusive SMS salary package) 

CENTRE : Head Office Pietermaritzburg 

 

REQUIREMENTS : Grade 12/ Matric Certificate, An LLB Degree (NQF level 07) or equivalent (B Uris; B Proc; BA Law and B Com Law together with old LLB); A minimum of Five (5) years of experience at a middle/ senior managerial level in a legal practice. Plus Admission to practice either as an Advocate or an Attorney in the High Court of South Africa; plus Computer Literacy: MS Office Software Applications; plus Unendorsed valid Code B driver’s license (Code 08). Knowledge, Skills, Training and Competencies: The incumbent of this post will report to the Chief Director: Legal Services, and provide legal advisory services to the department in accordance with the current legislation, policy and general legal practice imperatives: The ideal candidate must Possess extensive knowledge of civil and criminal procedures Knowledge in all legal matters impacting on the area of operation of the Department Knowledge and understanding of the legislative framework governing the Public Service Extensive knowledge of all health legislation, both National and Provincially Broad knowledge of health related issues Legal drafting skills Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Excellent human relations Knowledge and competency in managing human, physical and financial resources Be computer literate with a proficiency in all Microsoft Office Software applications.

 

DUTIES : The successful candidate will be responsible for, amongst others: Provide overall management of the Litigation, Contracts and Legislation sub-components, inclusive of strategic and operational management: Develop, implement and monitor policies and systems to a specific legal framework and ensure compliance therewith Render a comprehensive legal advisory service including legal opinions and legal research: Render legal drafting services to the Department inclusive of technical advice with regard to the drafting of all departmental contracts Ensure the effective and efficient management and utilisation of all resources attached to the component, inclusive of physical, financial and human resources.
