LABORATORY ASSISTANT

PURPOSE
To conduct routine elementary analysis in the laboratory, assist the analyst with the simple analyses when necessary and keep the workplace clean and tidy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan daily laboratory activities. Arrange the received samples on the benches according to the type of sample and worksheet. Receive and sign for samples from different stakeholders as per SOP. Undertake elementary analysis such as COD, Total solids and chlorides according to SOP. Operate the elementary instrumentations such as Conductivity meter as directed. Capture data using the necessary computer equipment. Report the outcome of the analysis to the manager. Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety rules and procedures as stipulated by the company. SAFETY SPECIALIST

PURPOSE
To provide support and advisory services to ensure that the organization and its appointed contractors comply with Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and its associated Regulations and standards, and that it manages safety related risks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Allocate projects to subordinates to ensure they audit them monthly and inspected weekly. Review subordinates monthly audit and inspection reports conducted on allocated contractors and send out to project team and contractor. Attend design meetings and give inputs on project designs. Develop appropriate procedures for the implementation and maintenance of the contractor management system. Ensure that safety close outs inspections and audits are done on completed project safety files and close out report submitted to the Engineer. Ensure that subordinates meet all set personal and departmental targets within specified timeframes. Contribute to the safety annual budget with the Safety Manager and identify items to be included or reviewed. Provide mentoring and advise to subordinates on health and safety matters. Ensure subordinates together with site management manage identified risks and deviations on Johannesburg Water sites. Ensure that all administrative requirements of relevant legislation are complied with. METER READER

PURPOSE
Ensure that all meters are read accurately and consistently with a high level of integrity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accurately read water meters as per meter reading route. Accurately locate the relevant water meter using the meter number to verify its validity. Capture the water meter information, i.e. meter number, readings and dials onto the handheld device on site, as well as manually on spread sheets. Assess the meter / faults and bring the appropriate code back to line management. Identify new meters and / or change meters. Read meters that are not on the meter reading route. Plan route from start to finish. Ensure that all meters on the assigned route are read. Refer customer to correct centre / department, e.g. City of Johannesburg. Read meters in presence of customer. Communicate with customer about the read meter and the queries thereof.

ASSISTANT PROCESS CONTROLLER

DEVELOPMENT CO-ORDINATION MANAGER

PURPOSE
Manage a section of technical staff to ensure the provision of a development control function that evaluates and assesses township and land applications, encroachments, outline scheme reports, site development plans, construction drawings and building line relaxations in respect to technical and legal suitability in terms of Johannesburg Water’s standard guidelines to ensure the protection of the Company’s infrastructure, interests and legal obligations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise the development control staff in terms of the conditions of service and provide mentorship. Oversee the building plan application and wayleave process. Oversee the approval of town planning applications received by the Development Engineering Officers for amendment schemes, removal of restrictions, subdivisions, consolidations, sales, leases, encroachments and miscellaneous applications (e.g. notarial tie agreements). Assess the impact the proposal would have on Johannesburg Water’s services and evaluate and approve designs and layouts in terms of Johannesburg Water’s standards. Provide pre-planning technical input at technical coordination meetings at the City of Johannesburg for all provincial and government housing schemes. Present reasons for rejecting development applications and defend Johannesburg Water’s development control function at tribunal hearings at the City of Johannesburg. Oversee the approval of site development plans received by the Development Engineering Officers with respect to the anticipated water demand and effluent discharge and impact on engineering services. Check on Alchemy and IMQS to confirm the positioning and requirements of metered water and municipal sewer connections. Receive detailed construction drawings and evaluate the conditions of the proposed establishment in terms of Johannesburg Water’s standards by checking the types of materials used, slope and grade of sewer and water network, velocity, flow and lengths and depths of water and sewer pipes etc. Receive “As built” drawings from the regions and make a recommendation to the City of Johannesburg to issue a clearance and provide a value of construction for the purposes of generating a defects liability guarantee. Object to applications in writing and meet with consulting engineers to explain reasons for non-approval. Request outline scheme reports with more detail indicating bulk provision and internal network requirements of the township. Receive applications for new township development from the City of Johannesburg.
