IT Desktop Technician (x2 Permanent) 
Salary scale: R334, 566. 73 – R407, 512. 82 
 
 
Qualification
 IT Diploma or Degree or equivalent NQF level 6 qualification 
 MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional) 
 Valid Driver’s license 
 3 to 5 years’ experience in a desktop environment 
 
Key Performance Areas 
 Supports the testing and deployment of new applications and systems peripheral equipment and software 
 Carries out problem analysis to implement temporary or permanent fixes with the aim of restoring service to the customer as soon as possible 
 Accurately records, updates and documents requests using the IT service desk system 
 Maintains a first class level of customer service ensuring that all customers are treated efficiently and in an appropriate manner 
 Installs and configures new IT equipment. 
 Performs software and hardware upgrades 
 Resolves incidents with printers, copiers and scanners 
 Maintains and resolves incidents with VoIP telephone, Biometric, Video systems and other computing equipment 
 Identifies and resolves connectivity issues (e.g. Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN)) 
 Establishes VPN access for all remote users. 
 Escalates incidents to other support teams where necessary 
 Assists in the installation, configuration, upgrading and maintenance of desktops, laptops 
 Maintains passwords, data integrity and file system security for the computing environment 
 Train and guides staff on hardware and software usage 
 Interacts with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment and software 
 
Specific Skills and Knowledge 
 Capabilities to perform ICT hardware and software repairs 
 Management of Microsoft software and Dynamics

 Training and transfer of ICT knowledge

 Understanding of the ICT environment 
 Knowledge of Microsoft operating systems with an emphasis on Windows 8 and Server 2008 
 Extensive knowledge on TCP/IP protocol 
 Understanding of PC hardware set-up and configuration
