GENERAL MANAGER: ROODEPOORT THEATRE 
 
The Joburg City Theatres (JCT), an entity of the City of Johannesburg that stimulates and operates Joburg Theatre, Roodepoort Theatre, and Soweto Theatre to provide integrated theatre management, is seeking a skilled and motivated General Manager: Roodepoort to join the JCT team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 
  • Grade 12 (NQF level 4) 
  • Degree in Management disciplines (NQF Level 7). 
  • 10 years’ senior management experience in Operations/General Management. 
  • Be able to communicate effectively on high level – verbally and in writing. 
  • Articulate, assertive, analytical and logical. 
  • Be available to work overtime as and when required. 
  • Be able to work independently. 
  • Good report writing skills 
  • Work under pressure 
 
PRIMARY FUNCTION 
Direct, develop, manage and implement the vision and mission of Roodepoort Theatre and provide leadership, direction and overall control of the operations of the theatre in building shareholder value, in a way consistent with the broad policy of the Board of Directors. 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Develop, implement and coordinate strategies and operational enhancements aimed at ensuring that the theatre delivers high-impact services to customers. 
  • Manage the running of the theatre including the general maintenance of the theatre building, its stage machinery and its assets setting and maintaining excellent operating standards in both customer and client services. 
  • Define, adjust, and manage personnel's key performance indicators, job design, and role boundaries against service delivery requirements. 
  • Design and implementation of work procedures, standards and performance outputs. 
  • Evaluate and comment on the applicability of specific key performance indicators and measures against outcomes detailed in the Roodepoort Theatre’s Business and Strategic Plans. 
  • Present a conceptual framework of current and future interventions necessary to support core service delivery areas with accurate information and records of work in progress. 
  • Developing an effective marketing campaign and realization of revenue objectives. 
  • Expansion and development of production capabilities and diversification of audience. 
  • Devise innovative ways to attract new audiences to the theatre. 
  • Upgrade and maintain the theatre’s infrastructure, systems and equipment to support high-quality productions. 
  • Coordinate and form partnerships for non-theatre programming (Music shows, festivals, poetry, movie screenings, performance competitions etc.). 
  • Monitor and evaluate all partnerships.

Salary Range : R49 780.13- R 66 515.19 (Basic Salary Excluding Benefits) 
 
Minimum requirements 
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree or equivalent discipline 
  • Computer Literacy: Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, Internet and any other applications require to perform duties. 
  • 5 years’ experience in the theatre environment / industry 
 
Primary function 
The Senior Manager: Programming is responsible for leading, developing, and delivering a diverse, high-quality, and financially sustainable theatre and cultural programme at Soweto Theatre. The role ensures alignment with JCT’s strategic priorities, City of Johannesburg mandates, audience development objectives, and long-term sustainability, while strengthening local, national, and international partnerships. 
Key responsibilities: 
  • Implement JCT’s approved artistic and programming strategy. 
  • Translate organisational strategy into annual and multi-year programming plans. 
  • Identify, curate, and commission productions aligned to JCT’s vision, audience strategy, and business plan. 
  • Plan and manage application, adjudication, and implementation of performing arts residencies and special projects. 
  • Lead the end-to-end producing function for in-house, co-produced, and hosted productions. 
  • Negotiate and issue contracts in line with JCT policies and delegations of authority. 
  • Coordinate rehearsals, technical schedules, press nights, and opening events. 
  • Act as the central liaison between creative teams, technical departments, marketing, box office, and operations. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with artists, producers, funders, embassies, festivals, and cultural institutions. 
  • Represent JCT in industry forums, festivals, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly, mid-year, and annual programming reports.
  • Manage tenant leases, venue bookings, and compliance with rental agreements. 
  • Compile and submit close-out reports for all productions and projects. 
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping for contracts, royalties, and production documentation 
  • Oversee programming for the Mobile Theatre Truck and Theatre Park activations. 
  • Develop and submit annual and production-specific budgets for approval. 
  • Ensure alignment between programming objectives, budgets, and revenue targets. 
  • Monitor production income and expenditure against approved budgets.

HOSPITALITY MANAGER

LOCATION : JOBURG THEATRE

HOSPITALITY MANAGER 
REPORTING : FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER 
SALARY RANGE : R35, 043.67(basic salary excluding benefits) 
 
Minimum requirements 
  • Grade 12 
  • National Diploma (NQF 6) in hospitality management or related field. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in hospitality management. 
  • Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills. 
 
Primary function 
Hospitality Manager is responsible for delivering exceptional guest experience, managing daily operations and driving business growth within Joburg City Theatres. Responsible for the coordination of all functions, conventions and any other events including liaising with all clients, ascertaining their requirements and coordinating these needs to ensure the successful execution of the function 
 
Key responsibilities: 
  • Supervise and manage administration staff on all client visits and enquires, ensuring that all client files are up to date 
  • Communicate on a regular basis with all new clients after the contracts have been opened to ensure client satisfaction is maintained from start to end 
  • Lead and manage all client site visits, and empower new clients to book functions and rooms in Joburg City theatres 
  • Manage the sales targets daily and report on sales targets achieved weekly 
  • Plan and co-ordinate all events and functions with front of house staff 
  • Supervise the service standards from start to end of event or function 
  • Manage and co-ordinate all line staff during events 
  • Conduct site inspections with the client on the various facilities available, advising and discussing the merits of the various options 
  • Manage the companies function planner schedule ensuring that there are no double bookings and to communicate this regularly with all management 
  • Supervise and assist at any special functions, should the function warrant this, which may also sometimes be out of normal working hours 
  • Ensure that all events within Joburg Theatre complex & outdoor events run smoothly & are of high standard 
  • Manage all revenue received, ensuring that all daily revenue is wrung up on the companies Point of sale system 
  • Provide weekly client visit reports to senior management 
  • Supervise the weekly forecasts of all venue and rooms availability 
  • Manage all outstanding monies owed through events and functions 
  • Manage an updated client database and constantly update whenever any new client visits
  • Maintaining good guest, PCO’s and client relations 
  • Attending meetings with all subordinates, ensuring a good flow of communication and feedback.
