PRODUCER
The Joburg City Theatres (JCT), an entity of the City of Johannesburg that stimulates and operates Joburg Theatre, Roodepoort Theatre, and Soweto Theatre to provide integrated theatre management, is seeking a skilled and motivated Producer to join the JCT team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 
  • Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent. 
  • Diploma in Performing Arts, Arts Administration, Cultural Management, Project Management, Business Administration or equivalent discipline (NQF 6). 
  • Computer Literacy: Working knowledge of MS Office Suite 
  • 5 years’ experience in the theatre environment/industry; and 
  • 3 years in the supervisory level 
  • Strong project management, organisational skills, communication, and reporting experience in a live performance environment. 
  • Experience in budget management, production scheduling, and team leadership in theatre or live events. 
 
PRIMARY FUNCTION 
To manage the full producing function of Soweto Theatre by coordinating artistic, technical, and administrative elements of all productions and programmes. The role ensures that projects are delivered to high creative and operational standards, supports strategic planning with the Artistic Director, and maintains strong relationships with partners, tenants, and visiting companies to uphold the theatre’s artistic vision and operational efficiency. 
 
Key Responsibilities 
  • Oversee the daily producing function, ensuring all productions and tours are delivered to high artistic and technical standards. 
  • Collaborate with the General Manager; Artistic Director and Chief Operations Officer on project planning, budgeting, and implementation of the theatre’s artistic objectives. 
  • Manage casting processes, liaising with directors and agents, and handle all availability checks and offers. 
  • Coordinate production schedules, site visits, and meetings with internal teams, co-producers, and tenants. 
  • Administer programming reports (weekly to annual) and maintain accurate deposit and rental records. 
  • Draft and monitor production budgets, ensuring expenditure aligns with approved allocations and supply chain requirements. 
  • Support artistic and community programmes, including special projects and auxiliary activities. 
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with partners, companies, and visiting productions. 
  • Manage contract and lease negotiations, ensuring compliance with company and municipal policies.
