The Joburg City Theatres (JCT) an entity of the City of Johannesburg (COJ), operates Joburg Theatre (Braamfontein), Roodepoort Theatre and Soweto Theatre in order provide the integrated management of world class theatre venues and a high quality entertaining, innovative and inclusive programme which serves diverse communities.

Salary: R28 456.44 (basic salary excluding benefits)
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited: Assist Director In reviewing audition material. ● Research and memorize scripts and background information on the production ● Assist Director in overseeing technical run-throughs prior to performance rehearsals ● Maintain and manage rehearsals and calendar ● Chair production meetings ● Contact understudies in the event that a lead actor is unavailable ● Ensures that production schedule is adhered to ● Resolve technical issues during rehearsals ● Work with the costume department to ensure that all costumes and props are ready for photo shoots, rehearsals and performances ● Provide stage directions and cues to actors during rehearsals and performances ● Maintain log of daily rehearsal activity, script changes and official performances ● Write and distribute daily rehearsal, production meeting, and performance repots timeously ● Record all scenery cues, lighting cues, sound cues, pyrotechnical cues, AV cues, fly cues etc. and stand-by’s in a script/production book in advance of the first technical rehearsal ● Call all cues during the run of the show.● Report all mechanical faults to the Production or Technical Manager and building department and ensure that faults are rectified in time by also following up ● Prepare props, furniture and costume lists in consultation with the director and designers and ensures substitutes are available for rehearsals ● Oversees the organization and design of the stage prior to performances ● Assist in setting up of props and other items for a production ● Supervise and train employees ● Inspect all equipment after use before storage ● Maintain AV equipment ● Operate AV ● Write and distribute performance reports ● Operate control consoles for sound, lighting and video ● Draw rehearsal schedules ● Archive shows for future use ● Compress, digitalize, duplicate and store audio and video data. ● Enforce health and safety regulation ● Ensure all stunts and technical details are executed safely● Ensure Technicians follow safe procedure when rigging by securing gear with additional safety cables ● Ensure the stage, side stages and rehearsal areas are free of hazards ● Give professional advice and expertise to the clients ● Determine client’s production requirements and give the necessary support.
Appointment Requirements:
Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
National Diploma in Performing / Production Arts / Entertainment Technology or related qualification (NQF level 6).
3 to 4 years’ experience in theatre stage management.
Experience in rigging.
Knowledge of related policies and legislation governing safety and health.
Computer literacy (Microsoft Word & Excel)

Designation: Sous Chef (Ref: SC/06/2022)
Salary: R22 993.05 (Basic salary excluding benefits)
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Co-ordinate and provide general day to day administrative and operational support to the Head chef across all kitchen departments ● Ensure that all casual commie chefs are well briefed on the menu requirements for the weeks ● Ensure that all casual staff members are regularly trained to effect good portion control and pleasing presentation of all dishes. ● Ensure all areas under their control satisfy the most stringent hygiene requirements. ● Ensure all staff are correctly dressed to satisfy statutory requirements as well as enhancing the image of the establishment ●. Ensure all policies and procedures are properly implemented and maintained ● Ensure all meals prepared are in accordance to portion controls sheets & recipe cards as stipulated by senior management ● Ensure regular maintenance checks of equipment breaks down ● Suggest to management any new menu items ideas to be considered for new menu ● Ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Back of the House Department. ● Ensure daily, weekly and monthly stock takes on all food & operating equipment are conducted and verified ● Conduct regular On-the-Job Training in accordance to agreed standards ● Assist the Head chef with all on job training when required. ● Keep the kitchen area safe and sanitary ● Ensure stocktaking and ordering supplies for the kitchen.
Appointment Requirements:
Grade 12/ NQF Level 4
National Diploma in Culinary Arts or equivalent (NQF 6)
1 to 3 years’ experience as a chef de partie within the food & beverage environment

Salary: R22 993.05 (Basic salary excluding benefits)
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Oversee all the general maintenance of the theatre building, its stage machinery and its assets to the best globally –accepted standards at all times ● Ensure regular maintenance of all electrical equipment according to the Occupational Health and Safety Act ● Ensure regular inspections on all electrical equipment according to the Occupational Health and Safety Act ● Maintain all the electrical motors (single and 3 phase) and pumps in all air-conditioning plants and sumps ● Ensure that all the electrical systems on all machinery are maintained and comply with the Machinery’s Act ● Use electrical plans to solve automation problems in the machine rooms ● Maintain the Fire Pumps (electrical) and Diesel Engine. Use technical drawings for Upper and Lower Machinery for fault finding ● Move Side Stage Wagons, Bogey, Backstage Wagon, Stage Drives and Personnel Lift as and when required ● Change wheels on Side Stage Wagons, Bogey, Backstage Wagon, Stage Drives and Personnel Lift on a continuous basis ● Check and maintain all UPS systems in office, ticketing, Security Control Room, upper and lower Machinery. ● Ensure general maintenance of all stage equipment including large access doors on the side stage and backstage as well as inspection of counterweights for all upper machinery equipment. ● Ensure general electrical maintenance of all offices. ● Keep adequate electrical spares for repairs ● Ensure and promote workplace safety in terms of OHSA and Wiring Code SANS 10142. ● Report all unsafe places, equipment and cables to the Occupational Health and Safety Manager.
Appointment Requirements:
National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or related qualification (NQF level 6)
Trade Test Certificate in electricity
Wireman’s Licence registered with the Department of Labour
1- 3 years’ experience in electrical field.
Knowledge of computer software programs used for PLC’s and Matrona units for Upper and Lower Machinery.
Computer literacy (Microsoft Word & Excel)

Designation: Community and Audience Development Internship
Salary: R 5 470.00 pm
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Ensure that Youth Development producers, directors, facilitators sign contracts and all contracts are filed ● Ensure that all contracts and facilitator timesheets are sent to relevant department for timeous payments ● File all youth development programmes invoices ● Submit invoices and follow up with finance department for payment ● Send out distribution schedule and workshop performance tech riders to the technical department and FOH manager for appropriate scheduling of staff. ● File registers for all training programmes ● Print and copy music scores and scripts as maybe applicable. ● Assist with community/youth walk in enquiries ● Visit companies and patrons re information related to community and youth development programmes. ● Assist with paperwork as maybe applicable for Ad hoc projects. ● Draft contracts in consultation with the Youth Dev Manager. ● Schedule meeting requests pertaining production meetings for set-works and other youth development productions ● Compile event notification for internal circulation. ● File registers and keep database for students in the department ● Consolidate attendance registers for monthly and quarterly reports ● Monitor and coordinate the youth development social media platforms ● Maintain a personal desire to learn and grow in his/her work.
Appointment Requirements: Grade 12 plus Arts administration diploma or an Artistic or Project Management qualification (NQF Level 6) ● Good written and verbal communications in the English language ● Willingness to work unsociable hours. ●Willingness to be communicated. Be able to work independently and not to be micro-managed.

All applicants must be: between the ages of 18 -35 years and be a South Africa citizen. Students who need Experiential Training who studied at a recognized institution of higher learning in the Republic of South Africa.
Successful candidates will be appointed on a 12 months internship contract. An all-inclusive monthly stipend of R 5 470.00 will be paid.
